Vitese versus Tune
2 things I want to accomplish. Turn off AFM and fix the inherent throttle lag. Do I need to get both a tune and a Vitese to accomplish or can a tune improve the throttle response?

I just got the Range AFM disabler today, and I should be getting the vitesse throttle controller soon..... I figured with those two devices I should feel a difference in response... I m not ready to,give up a warranty if I tune the car. Supposedly the two together should make the car feel more responsive.

Can you run a VTC and a AFM disabler together at the same time? or do they use the same port/ need a splitter

I was hoping to accomplish this without extra hardware. Everyone seems to love their Vitese but where do you put the controller so it does not look out of place?

You can run both. No problem at all. Two totally different and separate devices.

So back to my original question sort of. Will a hand held tuner such as Diablo turn off AFM and give me a better throttle response?

I can't answer because I have never used a Diablo. I will say that I went with the Range and VTC because of warranty. If that weren't a concern, I would have gotten a real tune. A real tune, from a good tuner, will make your car run so much better that you won't believe it. There is no choice, hands down, a real tune wins. Then the throttle controller is icing on the cake.

So a tune will not do what a Vitese can? I am only under warranty till May so I'm trying to figure out what to do. Have added spoiler and CAI. Some sort of exhaust next. Then want to take things up a notch with a little " tweaking". Any and all input appreciated!

The Vitesse is a throttle controller. It alters the response you get from the gas pedal. It doesn't change your air/fuel mixture, AFM, shift points in the tranny, or anything else a good tuner will modify. The Vitesse and a tune are two different things. A good tuner will put your car on a dyno (a machine that simulates real driving conditions) and set it up to run a whole lot better than you could ever imagine.
The best of both worlds? A real tune (not a handheld with canned tunes) and a VTC together. Now, keep in mind, once you add a CAI and an exhaust, you'll need to be tuned again. If you tell your tuner about your plans, you can probably strike a deal where he can tune it now, then redo things once you add your other mods.

Imo it depends on personal preference. I have a ported TB, CAI with scoop, and LT headers a long with a custom tune. The TB and the tune combined practically eliminated all noticeable throttle lag for me so personally I see no need for the VTC.
If you are already planning to add headers you will need a tune anyway so add a ported TB to the list and see if you're happy. To answer your question about the Diablo, while it can turn off AFM, the canned tunes that come already installed on it are crappy and I wouldn't use them. You're better off getting a custom tune for your car. There are several vendors here that do great work. I use Jannetty and recommend him if you go this route. |

I do it every day. Range plugs into OBDII port - VTC connects to your gas pedal assembly. No conflict at all.

I put mine inside the center console. You don't need to get to it all the time or see it. I pretty much have mine set and forget about it.
