Removing gold part of OEM emblem
has anyone removed the gold part of their bowtie to install different color ones? If so how did you remove the gold part of your OEM emblem. I want to install these but don't know how to remove the gold part. http://www.rpidesigns.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=1727

I'm just guessing but don't they just stick on the gold part?

Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to just buy some vinyl overlays?

Ahh gotcha! Have you looked into some custom painted ones. There's a member on here who sells them, i forgot his name. But he does really good custom painted ones. I didn't even know GM sold black oem bowties to replace the gold ones.

I had black overlays and after a while they started to peel so I had mine painted at the dealership. Much cleaner look and it will last longer than the overlays. Here is the thread with my pics in it. Good luck!!

I removed the gold inserts from the bowties by heating them up with a blow dryer. The front one is pretty easy because you can remove the whole assembly from the car, heat it up and push off through the back. The rear one is more complex. You have to drill a small hole in it, heat it up and then use a small screwdriver to pop it out. I removed mine and installed defenderworx flat black ones.

Its simple. Take a drill , put in a drill bit. Drill a hole in the center of the bowtie no more than a 1/16th of an inch deep. Take a small pick tool and pop it off. Same as back bowtie.

RPI Designs did mine and they are painted CFM. They turned out great!
They will paint them whatever factory paint color you want. They also have black and carbon fiber. |

You don't have to remove the gold part to plasti dip. You just have to mask it off. I did mine that way, and a number of other people on here have done it that way as well. $134 is a big waste of money if you can get the exact same look for 5 bucks, and honestly, less work. To each their own though.
