I have no idea why the airline would not want to issue the pass. It sounds like a nice thing to have if you have a small child and a lot of gear to take with you. You still need a friend to come along and help so they need to have the pass.

Would I ask Southwest why they did not issue the pass? - yes. Would I loose sleep over it? - nope.

JMO.
You are right on everything.
I have filed a complaint to find out why the pass was declined.

Oh well, duh.

Sounds like you should complain to management for sure. It's no skin of "manny's" back, he was just being lazy and let his authority go to his head a little much.

Southwest should do something to rectify this.

And to those giving the OP a hard time, we each have our own oppion, but the fact is that SWA offers a program, has provided it before for OP's daughter and was willing to provide the program/servie again, but because of Manny's "discretion" and attitude it was denied.

If Manny had taken a different more pleasent approach, pehaps we would have learned that they were understaffed, or that for some other understandable reason he could not accomidate OP's daughter then it would be different. But because Manny chose to respond like he did, he is not providing great customer service. Heck Manny is not even being a good fellow human (treat others as you want to be treated type of thing). Why not take a few seconds to explain why you will not be able to provide the program/service? Probably because he was having a bad day and chose to let his "power" go to his head. I hope SWA management speaks to Manny and maybe it was just an off day for Manny. At least that is what I think.

Hope all went well with flight OP.

Again, not trying to knock down the OP here...just trying to see if there's another side to this.

Is it possible that TSA might have had something going on, so THEY weren't going to allow an escort pass that day at that time...and had directed airlines not to issue any for that time period due to security concerns.

If I understand the OP correctly, essentially, it's a pass for someone that didn't schedule a flight. I could see the TSA limiting this if they had security concerns about it, and directing all airlines to do this.

Or it could have been that one agent.

Personally, nothing I would get worked up about.

Don't know about you, but the fact that I have to stand in line and line up first come first serve seating is bad in my book. So unless you check-in ridiculously early, you're pretty much guaranteed a middle seat with Southwest.
Then in line people don't even line up according to their number. It's like they forget how to count, but I guess they're just battling for a better seat too.

Actually flying virgin airlines is really nice.

You're flying in a plane! It's amazing. You go from one place to across the country in a few hours. Seriously, having to spend a little extra effort with your kid isn't the end of the world, maybe they were understaffed and couldn't do it that time.

No need to lose your cool...remember, you're still FLYING across the country in a chair. It's magical, it's wonderful....and too many people seem to take it for granted (some of this ripped off from some stand up comic I heard once).
+1. As the great Louis C.K. stated:
