Yup multiple lights coats, then a heavier final coat to make it smooth.

Should be interesting, I for one am happy that automotive seems to have picked up again. I'm only 21 but from what I could tell the late 80's/90's was sort of a dead spot for most automakers.

Question, you think we'll see manual 8 speeds? Or will manuals stay at 7 speed? I can picture it at 8 but some gates would repeat I imagine.

late 70s through early 90s was pretty much a dead zone in my mine for style and performance overall...although there are always some bright spots..

The automotive world has gone from high performance/low efficency, to low performance/better efficency, now to high performance/good efficency today.

As for 7 and 8 speeds...you can bet we'll see 8 speeds in all automatics within a few years. I just hope they can keep the programming smart in them and so stuff like only use gears 1 - 6 in sport mode or manual modes...stuff like that and save the ultra tall 7 - 8 gear ratios for regular drive modes.

I really enjoy using the tap shift in my automatic, and I can't imagine going through 8 gears....that would be a lot of button pushing.

For manuals...I've read a 7 speed could be possible...I doubt 8s.

Wow from late 70's? That blows, an entire generation of people who missed out. Actually, by age they should be the ones that are designing our cars now. No wonder today's cars are all awesome, lol. I know plenty of older folk who still swear by certain brands of cars but I think that age is gone now too, all cars (sold in the US anyway) meet some sort of minimum quality standard or it won't sell/the company will catch hell on the media. There's nothing wrong in having preferences but that's not the same as sitll claiming that some makers make junk cars, my two cents.

7 is doable, the new corvette has a seven speed manual. I think I've heard of 8's and what they do is recycle some gates so like 1st and 2nd are in the same in the same gate or something to that effect.

Personally I wish GM had not used tap shift on the steering wheel. I'd like having it on the shifter to the side of S.
