N/A FTW. I know GM was supposed to develop a N/A engine at first for the Z06 but emissions was the problem and they had to go supercharged.
I wonder why Ford can develop a 5.2 N/A and pass emission with 500+hp. Is it because Mustangs are sold in bigger numbers compared to the Vette?? Anyway this is bad news for the next ZL1. Track beast that cannot go as fast as a LS7 Vette?? Why the **** they didnt go with a ****ing DI 427 :( Next vid up: Hellcat beating a Z06?

Great video, would have been nice to have a Hellcat in that row as well.

I believe GM didn't feel they could meet the desired power number so they gave up quickly on a DI 427 motor. Maybe they wanted 600 and when they could only get 550 they decided to go a different route. I know they said it made less power but I call BS on that, they weren't specific on what it made. The Z06 is a very important halo car to GM though, so if there are significant shortcomings (like it can't beat a viper) I believe GM will fix these issues. People do push these cars and expect them to meet the claimed performance.

Looks like viper is king of the roll race. Interested in seeing how these two match up on the twistys now!

Like I said
LIke i said above, this should have been a close race something is wrong.
Horsepowers are about the same etc. I get it that in different speed ranges different cars make power under the curve differently, and gearing etc. But it should not have been such a walk away. If it's not this particular car then GM has a problem with this new Z06. Hope it gets straightened out fast. Jim

What was cool about this run is neither car / driver was marketing or selling anything. Just a couple of true car guys doing a totally un-biased test on two of the fastest US production cars out there. KUDOS to that.
The only thing I see to help the Vette was to use no lift shift, but still would not have made up that difference. Quite sure we will see more of this from the magazines and performance shops but this was the real deal. Z fans will just have to deal with it. |

Larger production numbers don't help an engine meet emissions requirements. If anything, a low volume car has an advantage because I think there are exemptions available for ultra-low volume cars. But both the Z06 and the GT350 will be grossly exceeding the production cap (I think its less than 30 cars over the entire production run) so that exemption doesn't factor in.

lol , i saw a Viper last week and i was shocked. never see them out here. in fact i saw 2 Ferrari's, 3 Maserati's and one Aston Martin over the weekend on the street. Plus 2 Stingray's. Whatever the Viper can or can't do is kind of moot considering they don't sell.
