Engine tapping when cold
Has anyone heard their engine tapping when it's cold. I bought my 2015 2SS used. It is still under warranty.

Somewhat common. Change the oil if it hasn't been done in awhile. Then have it checked
by a dealer since it's under warranty. That way there's also a record of your concern.

Do you mean as in first start, when the engine is cold, or do you mean when the weather is cold?
Is it a very specific loud tapping, or more like a general tapping? Is it a new sound, or has it always done this? Some tapping is normal, it's the nature of the beast. But if it sounds like a specific lifter is louder than the others, or a pronounced tick or knock that had recently developed, then it probably needs some attention. I just asked about the weather, because it is winter, and when it's freezing cars tend to almost always make weird sounds that makes us think they are about to fall apart. |

We had single digit weather here in Texas. I noticed the noises were more pronounced than normal. If I start to drive it before it reaches normal running temp, I hear a knock that I cannot pinpoint.

I also hear a short tapping sometimes as the engine is warming up when it is cold outside. Never found anything out of the norm. I chalk it up to metal expanding as they heat up. Could be a lot of things but if it's common I wouldn't worry.
