Thumbs up you did the right thing

First - Thank you for defending our freedom and way of life.

Second - you did the right thing.

Maybe a new Camaro convertible is in your future?

Thank you,

Derek.

Thank you for serving & protecting our FREEDOM.

Freedom doesn't mean, take what doesn't belong to you & use it as you see fit. I'm sorry that she felt like she had the right & the liberty to use your car.

Who's insurance company would have paid for the damages to the other cars she hit if you hadn't filed a "stolen car report".

It's her life choices & she has to "FACE THE MUSIC"! LIFE'S ROUGH SOME TIMES.

lol You did the right thing. Just tell him he shouldn't have raised a thief. She got what was coming to her.

Hold on guys, the op is stating that he had gbeen given a second chance in his life, and that means alot.
We all know that if you make the wrong decision now, you can be screwed for life, however i think there are other options you could try first, and if they dont work out, well then report it stolen. Couple of other members here have posted having her parents pay, is there any way you can get this to happen. Let em know that the only way you wont report it stolen (as it actually was), is if they take out a loan or whatever to pay for a brand new camaro of the same value. If they dont, then report it stolen, your giving her a second chance by giving them that option. If they dont take it well then you tried. Report it stolen if all else fails.
Oh and thank you very much for your service, i may not be from the US but i respect every man who put their life in front of others. You are a great man and thank you. My friend comes back from his tour in 2 weeks!

Everyone deserves a second chance but its one thing if you get caught shop lighting a cd at a store and let go and quite another taking a powerful car for a joyride without permission from anyone. It wouldnt be fair for him to take that hit especially while serving his country overseas. There was no good choice but there was only one fair choice.

Sometimes people need to learn to think things through more and now she will get that chance. Whether she can turn it into a positive is up to her and her family.

I know this ordeal is over but I'd like to add in my opinion. To reiterate what everyone else has said, thank you for serving, risking your life, to protect us. As you said before, the main reason you filed the charges was the fact was a lack of apology. I believe that if she was genuinely remorseful and given you a formal apology, written or through the phone, the story might have been different. Another thing I realized over time is that jail can really screw up a person's life but it turns out she was headed down the wrong path anyway and probably destined for hard time, this time or next. Also, it must have been depressing for your own parents to turn their backs on you. Good luck.

Wow, can't even imagine how that news felt and then dealing with the clean up. You did the right thing, people make stupid decisions and get away with them far to often. Thanks for serving, enjoy your new ride when you get home!

You made the right call. You do not owe this person a favor when they disrespected you by stealing your car, getting it totalled, and having no way to pay for it. They promise to pay you back no matter how long it takes. Well that just might be about 20 yrs. And when they stop payments after 6 months it would be way too late to go back and change the report then. If the family was so desperate to protect their oh so innocent child, they should have paid you and then she could pay them back. But they refused.

If you hadn't changed the report, the people in the other cars in the accident could sue YOU, claiming you allowed her to drive your car.
