differences between the LS3 & L99

What are the differences between the LS3 & L99? Which one is most common in the 2SS camaro's?

well a 1ss and 2ss come with the same engines. either a LS3 or a l99.

l99= auto
LS3= manual

you will find most people drive a auto, so most have l99.

l99 400HP 420TQ

LS3 426HP 420TQ

L99 has VVT

A quick summary would be that the L99 has less compression, Variable Valve Timing and active Fuel management which deactivates cylinders while you are light on the throttle.

The LS3 is decently fast, the L99 is a joke in stock form.

L99 = AFM.

AFM + exhaust = drone.

AFM + loud exhaust = drone that'll want to make you wanna rip your head off.

My proposal is this if you get a L99. AFM + tune - resonators + great exhaust = badass exhaust FTW!

Not another M6 vs. A6 blog. Get what you want, both are great cars. L99 is just as fast because you have to factor in driver shifting errors with a LS3

they both drone LS3 and L99. even if the l99 didn't have AFM it would still have drone with some exhaust just the LS3.

AFM creates a bad sounding drone, but doesn't really create drone as the car will drone either way.

The main difference can be summed up as an auto trans car will cost more to mod due to all the parts that will need to be changed to make it like the LS3, of course if you only plan to go as far as intake, headers, and exhaust then it doesn't really matter.

I wonder what the difference truly would be. I am interested in a L99 with a aggressive exhaust, but I don't want to tune and lose my warranty. I have no idea how bad the drone could be. I have a small drone on my V6 with the MRT 2.0. If it's only that moderate I will be fine. Otherwise it may be a issue

well most drone from our cars is a deep sounding, humming type sound. i had a GMPP part on my LS3 and it had a drone like that. but the AFM will sound like a 4 banger at droning speeds/RPMs
