My Camaro was hit but...

I'm sooooo lucky because no damage was done but the way it all happened was kinda strange to me.

I'm driving home from work Friday and had to take a different route which I should not have done. I noticed a guy riding my bumper so close that I can't see his head lights and he's in an old classic cadillac the ones with the medal bumpers. When we get to the stop light he stops extremely close to my car so I inch up to give some room between us. About 30 seconds later, after being STOPPED at the light he runs smack into the back of my car. WTF? How do you hit somebody when you've already stopped at the light. I wait for a second before getting out because I've heard of those stories of people intentionally hitting you just to get you out of the car and since I'm by myself I'm feeling a little uneasy not to mention I'm looking in my rear view and he hasn't gotten out of his car yet.

I get out and braced myself for the worse because he hit me pretty hard and was shocked to see absolutely no damage to the car. I couldn't figure it out but then the guy says I must have hit the black under panel. Anyway, I chucked it up as these cars are sturdier than I thought and let the dude go. But here are two pics.

I was very fortunate and lucky that all I came out with is a few marks on the under panel.

very weird, very lucky. Glad you had no damage. BTW my law enforcement friends always told me it is bad to take the same route all the time...too predictable if you are being watched/targeted.

You should have murdered him right there. LOL Well maybe not. At least it didn't cause any damage.

Always file a report on scene... you may not notice all damages until too late.
Some of the clips holding that piece might be broken. Similar thing happen in my '05 Mustang GT, it was noticeable at speed with the wind wiggling it.

Good to know the bumper survived the tap in the rear.
You would think the older metal bumper car would win out.

You sir, have a different brand of luck than I do. If it were me, the car would've been mangled beyond recognition, but not totaled!

Glad ur cars ok! Was he a little old to be driving? Kinda sounds like a catnap-at-the-wheel scenario...

So far on Camaro5 forums I have learned that the side windows are hard to break and now I've learned that the rear bumper is pretty tough too.

Not really. Barely touched a pole awhile back with my rear bumper and incurred $2500 worth of damage...

Ouch!
However I saw a police chase video where the police kept hitting the side windows on a 5th gen' Camaro and they wouldn't break. On another note the front bumper covers are fragile, already had to replace mine for catching a parking bump while backing up.

I hope you got his information in case you discover damage later.

Just curious, what was his excuse for bumping you? his foot slipped off the brake?
