Timing retard for nitrous?
I have a kit off my old camaro I'm going to install on my 2011 SS, my problem is I don't want to keep the timing retarded the whole time on the account of the nitrous. I've done some searching and the route I'd like to go is using a resistor on the air temp sensor. I'll dial in the necessary retard at the coldest end of the scale, but I need to know what resistance I need to use to trick the computer. I searched and could not find the answer. Any help would be appreciated.

Owen over at ARD was always a big nitrous guy, could ask him. He had nitrous on his 4th gen Formula and now his silver 5th gen.

I'll ping him. How much you plan to spray? Wet or dry?

The air temp sensor sends a resistance to the ECM depending on what temp it senses. The ECM converts that to a temp. If you jump a resistor (value unknown, what I'm trying to find out) and it tricks the computer into thinking the air temp is really cold....usually below 0 degrees. You install a relay to activate this resistor and in the air temp map at that temp you choose, you set the timing to whatever you need it to be when using nitrous. If I don't get an answer in the next few days, I'll have to just figure it out on my own.

This might be a dumb question but why not just buy a timing retard box from made for nitrous from someone like MSD?

Cause it costs alot more than a resistor. I'm not rich lol

I would think a Rheostat would work much better than a fixed ohm resistor and you could fine tune it alot better and would be simpler and much less prone to failure. You could even mount it in the cab if you wanted to run the wires. Just a thought I would still just buy a retard box but I also understand where you coming from... |

I think the MSD #8625 will work for what you need...I'd give MSD a call and make sure.
