So it looks like I am having the same issue as well as the same anxiety about less than brilliant people tearing my dash out and all of the headaches soon to come.
The difference in my situation is that yesterday what first it appeared to be fogged glass, then very heavy unbreathable air (I thought I would choke to death), when suddenly what appeared to be smoke, which I now know was steamed coolant began pouring out of the vent. Today I turned on the heater to investigate and coolant itself began shooting out of the vent! The strangest thing is that only the passenger side vents are affected. Does anyone have any ideas as to why? I know I better have all of the information prior to allowing these yahoos to do an autopsy . Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

The heater core is on the passenger side. The coolant takes the shortest path to exit the vents...hence it comes out the passenger side.

Wow! This is still going on? The one thing I can say is that five months after all the work, the dash is still solid with no squeaks. That's good.
Also, I remind everyone getting their heater core replaced to make sure the A/C condensate line is reinstalled correctly. Remember, there was a TSB that cars out of the factory, such as mine, had the drain ling installed in such a way that the condensate would not drain from the condenser, so that would leak into the passenger side (it was so bad in my car that I could hear the water sloshing in the fan). When they redid the heater core, they crushed the grommet again, so they had to re-fix that as well. As for an S/C affecting the warranty, that's a tough one...I could see a way that they would say something like "Well, the S/C causes the engine to run hotter, so cooling system had to run more, and that's why your core sprung a leak..." On the other hand, if you go in, armed with a print out from this thread, they may see that it's not just isolated to a modified car such as yours. But that's just me saying that.

crock of S---
All of these heater core issues are a crock.$30-40 thousand dollar car and
a $10.00 dollar heater core causing thousand's of dollars worth of damage & repair. So far so good with mine.Just cant imagine this going out after warranty is gone and what the OUT OF POCKET cost to owner's might be ? I feel for all that have gone thru the replacement.

The thread above talks about doing something simple under the hood to fix the problem. This thread talks about removing dashes and windshields. What am I missing? |

Does the noise eventually cause the leak?
Will fixing the noise prevent the leak? |

850 to replace mine awhile ago. It was under warranty, but I asked just in case I ever had to pay for this.

That TSB covers the V8's. Mine's a V6 and I had a leak. I found coolant on the passenger side floor mat. Now, there is also the A/C condensate back up which causes water to appear on the passenger side floor mat. This noise one, I'm too tired to read about it right now. But I had no noise leading up to either issue.

So I got my baby back yesterday after a week in the dealer hospital...I will skip all the nonsense I went though making them believe what the problem was. They wont admit it but taking this string in with me helped them. There was limited scratching, pry marks and the like. I could have lived with it however, I am now so disgusted with the fact that my system is not working properly. The compressor is not coming on, no air conditioning at all, and the heater is "hotter" on the cold side of the dial!
I called back about 3 min after I left the dealership. (can you believe they did not check) They told me it was "probably" a computer issue! Can anyone provide some insight before I go drop it back off for more dissection? |

Rollout, I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're having with the vehicle. Have you spoken with Customer Assistance at all in regards to this issue? Also if your dealer is unable to take care of you you can have the vehicle checked by another GM dealer in your area if you'd like or if it is practical for you. I hope this gets resolved for you soon. If you need help let me know.
