That's all I was stating, either it does or it does not... If it's V6 with manual and a LSD than it does come with it.
Yes, the V6 does have a limited slip differential, when it has a manual transmission. With an automatic, it does not have a limited slip differential.
Simply stating that the V6 has a LSD is not completely correct.

Actually you started muddying the waters with saying that "posi" was not limited slip.. and then you started talking about Lockers... People tend to use the term "Posi" to refer to Limited Slips much like people tend to say they are going to make a Xerox of some thing regardless of the brand copier they are using... it's easier than saying a photostatic copy...

Posi = Positraction = Limited Slip Differential...

The facts are that the V6 Manual comes with a Limited Slip Differential. The V6 Automatics comes with an Open Differential.

In stock form I wouldn't be afraid... I made quite a few passes at the track last weekend... the torque management system REALLY softens up the shits! This should really reduce the stress on things... Timing was going from 25 to -10 on the shifts...

Question is... can the rear end from a manual be swapped into the automatic? Is the flange the same? Perhaps a custom drive shaft? Hmmm...

Can you pull the cover off you diff and get some pictures? I would love to see...

Or try this... put the passenger side tire in a puddle of water and leave the drivers side on the dry pavement... take a video for us...

If the auto has a LSD then I should have had rubber on both sides last week when I was at the track... I only had rubber on the passenger side..

What the heck, I just remember that GM just stepped up with a 5 yrs powertrain warranty so if the differential fails, they'll fix it for free

The Chevy site says that the LSD is available on the V6 and standard on the SS only because getting an LSD with the V6 does depend on which options you select. They can't legally say it is standard for that trim unless all options for that trim have it, and they can't say its not available unless none of them do.

Thus, they are stuck with listing it as "Available."

I heard of a technique for the automatic transmissions to get an open Diff to spin both tires, maybe not 100% at the same time but here is what i heard.

To get your car out of the snow when you have an open diff and need to spin both wheels (let say one is on ice and the other on snow and your not going anywhere), you would apply a certain amount of left foot braking, just enough to labour the Diff and apparently it work.

Now I have never tried this to date as my current car has never been that badly stuck yet, but maybe another Canadian snow guru could chime in??

(BTW this has nothing to do with any LSD stuff strictly open diff talk)

Hope this is not to much off topic. But is the LSD in the V6 manual the same as the V8? Just curious. Can,t find any specs on it in my searches.

As far as I know the rear end in the V6 manual is the same the V8s... the automatic is actually a smaller unit...

I can only assume they went with the smaller unit in the auto to make it weigh a similar amount to the manual. Of course, thats not what I would have done...

well its nice to know chevy put an lsd on the 2lt

my 86 has a posi.. it actually prevents me from using the full turning radius of the car compared to my friends iroc. IF i have it in gear while hard turning it jumps and binds and its not good. so i do believe i have a true posi, both wheels spin exactly same speed on the ground or up in the air.
