Safe to disconnect bcm?
Long story short, I'm installing a remote start in the car. With all due respect, please keep any "no remote start in manual transmission cars" commentary silent, I've had it in a manual before, and I know the risks and proper procedures.
MAIN question. If i disconnect the battery first, would it be safe to disconnect the connectors at the bcm? It would make install a lot easier and quicker. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

Thank you! Made the install a quick and easy success, two words I thought I'd never associate with remote start installs

As cool as remote start is, I just can't see putting that much faith in the parking brake.

Wouldn't mind installing one in mine, but I can hardly remember what I had for breakfast today, so trying to make sure I didn't leave the car in gear is a big no go for me....OP, awesome the install went smoothly. Love when that happens!

Many brands out there are manual safe now days. Compustar was the pioneer of it. When properly installed there is a protocol you need to do in order for it to start.
Being an installer for many years this is the only way to do it. I have actually seen someone start their car in gear and it will go across a parking lot. The torque from a starter is enough to pop the engine to start and move even if the e-brake is pulled. OP keep in mind that if you dont have one that is manual safe and you crash your car using it the insurance company will deny the claim. |
