Maybe a silly question about CAI

I have looked through alot of the aftermarket CAI and they all look like they are still drawing air from the engine compartment.

So doesn't that mean they are not really CAI??

Be gentle.....

most have a heat shield that seals to the bottom of the hood to minimize sucking in hot air. when i buy my cai, i'm going to get a sealed box type like ADM, CAI inc, volant, etc..

Most draw their air from the stock location. There is a tube that feeds the box. There are a couple that draw their air from in front of the radiator(Vararam and New Era). Finaly there are a couple that have tubing that snakes down pretty low to get it's air.

You are correct. A true CAI draws air from outside the engine bay like the ADM race CAI. Everyone just calls them a CAI and we all know what they mean. Intakes like the Rotofab block off the engine compartment but they have no direct channel to the outside of the car.

They don't? What are all those holes in the grill for? Where do you think the ADM filter is? It's in the same area as the rest of them, drawing air from the SAME HOLES.

I hope you have a tuner for your car. Many of the New Era CAI's require a tune to keep from surging, and bucking. I say many as there have been a few people that report they didn't need a tune but most i've heard from stated they did. If you are tuning your car, there shouldn't be a problem.

I am pretty sure new era has addressed this issue with some
changes so this is not happening anymore.

I haven't heard if they have. This was brought up in a recent thread and "some" are still having problems while others aren't. Hopefully they will get it worked out. The general consensus seemed to be that it's a great intake if you tune it.

If you are looking for a cold air intake that graps air from under the car check out the fastlane pipeline cold air ntake kit.
http://www.************.com/falain20cass.html

Also the ADM Race Kit that we sell works great as well!

It's also one of the top performers... but a little more difficult install than most.
