Because the GT500 just lost 100+ lbs and a supercharged Camaro would add about 100 lbs. It's not that hard to figure out that a ~3800 lb car will accelerate harder with 550 hp (also got a 10 hp bump) than a ~4000 lb car with 556 hp.

I'm still sure it's underrated too... Last I remember, it puts down more than 500 to the tires; I remember LSA to put down like 450 in a CTS-V with the IRS and all...

GM engines have been SAE Certified since 2006 so the days of underrating/overrating are essentially over.

I would think based strictly on driveline components and layout that an LSA powered Camaro should put down roughly what a CTS-V is putting down.

However there is more to making a car fast than just HP. 200lbs can be overcome with suspension, gearing, tires, a good power curve. Just the same I would like to see a little weight loss for the Z/28 and I'm kind of expecting it.
