GMPP 480 or 515 Hot Cam?

okay, I know cam related posts are a mile long, so forgive my inability to locate thru search previous posts that directly answers this question.
I have a well established tuner that has recommending the GMPP 480 or 515hot cam in my 2010 SS. I intend to install the Kooks 1 7/8 lt headers, and their full 3" exhaust with high flow cats, x-pipe, and bullet mufflers, and new CAI. I have not commited to the specific cam. Anyone installed the 480 or 515 GM cam, or anyone have an opinion?

I'm not really looking for a specific change at any point along the power band. Reality is the car will never see the drag strip but needs to sound and perform like it should.

It's just an old GM cam that's a dynosaur lol.

Why did your tuner recommend that? Lol

There are waaaay better cams now bud. What are you looking for in a cam? Goals? What is your end game plan?

Are you L99 (auto) or Ls3 (M6)?

I believe his response was he had the program to do the tune?

To be quite honest. I will never track the car, so a 1/4 mile or track performance is not a big deal to me. Probably a trivial answer to your question, but I'm more interested in getting a healthy low end cam lope exhaust note out of it more than anything, but not aggresive enough that I can still make a run to the grocery store or a weekend trip. Ultimate end game is to refinish the car exterior and interior, new wheel and tire package, and enough engine upgrade to establish some respect at the local car shows. This was a pre-order car in 09 and it has set in my garage since with a total of about 6000 miles. Just looking to do something with it before my 14 year old son decides that its his in two years.

GM has had a Hot cam for YEARS! The LT4 hotcam was great. Great little proven performer that still drove good. The LS1-3 series hotcams are not so good likewise with the ASA cam. There is no way I would seriously consider either one of those cams. There is no doubt in my mind I can make a easy 25-35 more rwhp with a similarly sized cam than the GM offerings.

Id certainly try to use a different cam, a lot of the cams out these days have a lot better lobe profile than the outdated gm cam. A lot more variety to suit your needs too.

feel free to give us a call here at Lethal Racing. We have a few in house cams that work great and can be custom to what YOU are wanting! Our cams are our design, but are ground/made from Comp Cams

I think I'm gonna agree with you. In 2007? My tuner made my file from pretty much scratch. From start up to wot, all cars are different and a dyno tune is a must IMHO.

I think you should get a custom cam that will fill your needs and wants in a cam. Call Brian Tooley of BTR or Ed Curtis of Flowtech. They are great valve train specialists that can hook it up with all parts needed.

IMHO there are supporting mods that go with a cam upgrade Ie

*c5r timing chain from katech
* comp trunions upgrade
* chromoly pushrods
* BTR valvesprings
* melling oil pump
* Ls2 chain dampner to eliminate the tensioner in the Ls3/L99's they BREAK.
* An oil that has more zinc and phosphorus
* maintenance, you will need to bring your car up to operating temps begone getting on it.

Just my .2
