Problem with radio display
My wife parked her Camaro in the garage the latter part of Nov. and due to the cold and the snow on the ground has not driven it since. I went out today to start the car and let it run for a while to charge the battery back up. (It started just fine) I noticed that the display in the radio was blue, but there was no lettering or numbers at all. I believe her XM expired the 1st of this month. I tried to change the band on the radio and also tried the menu but the display stayed all blue or would turn black with a strip of blue centered in the display. The radio worked fine when it was shut off so I'm not really sure if I have a problem or if this is just due to the cold. The garage in tied into the home but is not heated. The temps outside have been in the 20 to 30 degree range. Anyone else have this problem?:(

I let the car run for about 15 minutes and the
temp outside was 37 degrees. I didn't turn the heater on inside the car, so I'm not sure how warmed up it was.

I don't know if that wouldd have been your problem or not, but I would try turning on the heater for a while, and maybe even the AC withthe temperature up to dehumidify the inside of the car.

Liquid crystal displays do not react well when very cold. Let the temperature in the car warm up and see what happens.

Isn't the display between the guage pods also Liquid Chrystal? wouldn't the cold effect them also... I read another thread where someone had actually seen moisture in their radio display...

Try putting in a cd and see if any sound comes out.
I had to replace my display because there were black void lines-1 vertical/1 horizontal forming 1/4 sections. The lines were not thick, so I still could read the display and always had sound. Start with heating up the car for a good while.

Today the temp was 41 degrees si I started the car up and let it warm up. I then turned on the heat and let the inside of the car warm up. There is no display at all. I tried to find a station on the radio and can't seem to find any. Of course it's hard to tell if the radio was on or off without any display but it seems I have no radio at all. I didn't have a cd to play as the kids have them all in their cars but will followup with that when I can.

1.5 Turn volume knob as if you were turning it up. 2. Press the 'seek' button. 3. If 2 resulted in no sound press the power button of the radio. 4. Repeat 1.5 and 2. 5. If same results as 3, you probably don't have any radio. :( edit: yeah I edited in 1.5 and am lazy. |

OK here's the update. I went out and did not even start the car and just put a cd in and a display came up. I then pushed some of the buttons on the radio and everything was working just fine. The display stated the temp was 34 degrees, a little colder than the outside temp of 38 degrees. I turned the car on and everything appears to still be working. Just a note I did try the volume and search buttons while the display was not working and nothing would work. Tried the volume up and hit both am and fm buttons with no noise or static and then turned the radio on again and tried the same with nothing. Don't know if it is the cold or another problem with the radio but for now it seems to be working.

Your problem with the radio may be due to the power saver option that shuts down accessories when battery is low from sitting. They come back after battrey is charged up.

The car was running, I have a manual trans so the key
was in the ignition. It ran for about 10 minutes in the garage. Radio didn't do anything. Came back later when I got a cd to try. Put the cd in, car not running and no key in the ignition and everything worked and seemed there had never been a problem
