2013 GT listed as 420hp, add a S/C = roughly 520 & the BOSS @ 444(544 w/ S/C). Last I heard, the '13 GT500 is rated @ 650hp...

Now how about a 2013 GT or BOSS w/ twin turbos?

Well deserved Kudos to the ZL1. I bow to the bowtie but I'm happy to stick with my Boss.

Agree, except you can't make the blanket statement that the ZL1 doesn't have forged internals.

Both cars are an excellent value like we've never seen before.

Crazy, both of these cars apples to apples are pretty close to the same animal. The key differences are a plus or minus factor as far as cost. Here are a few.

ZL1 Rear axle & suspension is a +
ZL1 magnetic ride control is a +
ZL1 20" forged wheels is a +
ZL1 less forged internals is a -
ZL1 1900 supercharger is a -
ZL1 stereo is a huge -

GT500 more forged internals is a +
GT500 2300 supercharger is a +
GT500 carbon fiber drive shaft is a +
GT500 19" forged wheels is a -
GT500 solid axle is a -
GT500 stereo & mylink is a +

These are not all the differences but some of the key ones that reflect their similar pricing. You give and take a bit on both.

NEITHER car is overpriced IMO. Great values.

Someone mentioned one about a gt500 vert on VIR. That's the only one I've heard about.

(Edit: Sorry to make the off topic post, but I couldn't help myself.)
The mustangs still have live axles. The fact that they handle so well with those live axles that are superior when it comes to drag racing and cost to modify is amazing. If the ZL1 could not beat a live axle with IRS and magnetic ride it would be a huge embarasement.

The IRS + magnetic ride results in great ride quality off the track plus great handling on the track.

However, what Ford have been able to do with a live axle in the handling department is amazing.

On the other hand, GM is offering the magnetic ride for an amazing price.

What I wonder about is how much are magnetic ride shocks going to cost you to replace when the time comes?

If someone could list the ZL1 and Ford GT 500 packages that are comparable price wise or detail the price differences between the two on equally packaged platforms within a reasonable degree then we could speak about it on a level field.

ZL1 54,995+$1300 GG = 56,295

there really are no performance options and GT500 does not have an auto ($1,185+$1,300GG)
$995 sunroof
$495 suede package
$495 optional wheels
$495 footwell lighting
$600 carbon insert (credited)

GT500 base 54,995
PP 3,495
TP 2,995
recaros 1,8954
glass top 1,595
nav 2,405
shaker system 1,295

The car I was going to build was 61,450. I almost switched camps when my order got pushed cause I was just sick of waiting.

kits to make up the power are about 3k as a package which would put the ZL1 at 59,295.

money wise it is close. brand bias is creeping in abit if you think different. I think a modified ZL1 will lap quite a bit faster though. it will get crappier milage but niether is an economy car.

This is going get repeated so many times as people keep trying to compare apples to oranges. No matter what you do to your Camaro or Mustang, it ain't gonna handle like the ZL1. Technology is cool.

We have to take the Edmunds article with a grain of salt merely because it was the street and not a real track. I have absolutely no doubt the ZL1 handles like a dream on real-life roads and instills confidence to the driver far more than the GT500, but tracks are always different because they are more predictable and usually test runs are made by track-experienced drivers.

For example, the Viper will make most people poo their pants, and yet it's the fastest production car round Nurburgring (excluding the go-karts). I think the same will be for the GT500: some experienced expert driver will get better track times on the GT500 than a ZL1. The problem is for most of us, we won't be that good. And no-one can take away from the ZL1's amazing skidpad numbers - fantastic!

Just for poops and teehees, I'd like to see a base stock GT500 against a Zl1. See how close it is to it's PP numbers.
OP is right though, it's just this year that Mustang fans started caring about straight line numbers.

03/04 Mach 1 and Cobra... Definitely road course cars
07-12 Gt500 Pssh, drag strips suck, road course them ladies
11-12 5.0 hell yea it's a new 5.0... Thing road courses like mad!

What I'm getting at is while the fact that the newer GT500s, and Brembo equipped 5.0 GT can do a very good job of self representation at their price points, other than Boss models and the '00 Cobra, Mustang guys are speed oriented for the most part.

So if you can't accept that, and have to make comments like, "Now that they have all this power all they care about is straight lines." you need to be MORE than willing to see the counterpoint: "Now that the top of the line Camaro is generally trumped in speed, all these Camaro guys care about is handling."

So, the ZL1 now has Forged Internals?

Talking about how its better to put money into a cheaper car to make it faster than a stock more expensive car is stupid.
