Long tube headers with Borla Stype
I just recently added Kooks headers with cats to my exhaust and it is super loud.. Nascar loud in my opinion. I also lost that deep rumble of the Stype catback. Looking for some advice. I was thinking about adding a resonator or the flow master muffler xpipe or MBRP makes a bullets muffler I am not looking to take all the loudness just deepen the tone. Anyone out there feel the same or am I the odd ball and should enjoy the bald eagles flying when I smash the gas

On my 2012 I have Long Headers no cats and Corsa Mufflers .
It was Raspy Was able to tone it down a bit with a Resonated X pipe . Didn't change the volume much , but took the rasp out.

I am in similar boat. Long tubes but no cats. Absolutely hated that thru the stock suitcase so quickly got Cora axle back. Still raspy and loud as hell. Will be doing resonators to tone down. Having trouble w second round of motor mods so haven’t gone after it yet...
So u not alone...this is raspy as hell!

Ok good so I am not the only one who feels this way. What resonator x pipe did you use? Not that many choices out there only thing that I could find was the magnaflow. My issue is more of a tone then sound level.

Use the Borla 60608 if you already have the Borla catback.

That's what I thought too but the Borla 60608 is 2.75in and the zl1 Borla catback is 3in. I also called Borla and they said it would not work. Unless you know of someone using that with the zl1 catback. The person on the phone from Borla pretty much shot.me down and said tonfigure it out but Borla doesn't offer anything like that for the 2018 Zl1. I wanted to keep it all Borla

Ahh Borla is correct, sorry didn't know you had the ZL1 specific part number catback.

I have the ZL1 specific S-Type cat back (3”). I later did the full cat delete and it was way too loud. I too looked at Borla resonators but ran into the same problem. I ultimately picked up a pair of Vibrant 3” x 12” bottle resonators (#1794) and welded them in.
They quieted it down for sure but not near as much as I would have liked. If I had a do over I would have gone with the 18” version.

How are you liking those vs. going LT headers?

I like them quite a bit. Being a California car and dealing with visual inspections for emissions to pass, I didn’t want the headache of having to swap back to stock exhaust manifolds from the LTs. So I ported my stock manifolds and the NEP pipe inlets to open them up a bit to help with flow. Gained about 3/8” in diameter. Here are the manifolds: And the NEP cat delete pipes:

Surfing the web I did run across those vibrant bottles and also the MBRP. Magnaflow makes one too. I think I will have also go with that option.
Did the vibrant bottles take away some of the rasp too? |

I didn’t really have much rasp to begin with. Maybe because I wasn’t running LT headers? Loudness was my primary issue.
