I don't live in the US but have official retailers for GM/Chevy/Hummer etc where we lease cars. I would strongly recommend not modifying your car original parts. We did that to a Hummer H3 and they wont take it back if you cant restore it to original cus they cant vouch for the next customer that your job is properly done and could mean big repair bills for Hummer in the end. Its in the contract aswell.
So we had to buy the car out and then sell it ourselves which was a pain in the a$$.

I took my exhaust off of the Camaro and bought a SW instead so that i can restore it at the end of the lease period. I dont dare making permanent mods to it.

When I pulled my exhaust to install FAT 3 yes ago. ..I thought I was factory welded from the cats back to the tips. A muffler delete requires cutting off the muffler.

It absolutely does not need to be cut. The entire exhaust is slip fit. Its slip fit from the cat back, with another slip fit connection after the axle. If yours was welded, you bought your car used, and they welded it for some reason.

Why are you guys leasing cars with the intention of modding them? Seems like asking for trouble.

While I do agree it would be absurd to extensively modify a lease car, I see no issue changing out the exhaust as long as he leaves the stock exhaust alone to reinstall when the time comes. It's a 20 minute swap if he does it right and doesn't cut anything. The exhaust has no impact on engine performance so there's no danger of damage occurring.

On a lease the dealership handles all routine maintenance this means he'd have to swap it every time he brings in the car for scheduled maintenance.. Seeing as it's a lease not everyone will agree on modding it at all. Personally I wouldn't because it seems like throwing away money.. He already knows it has to be removed. So he will pay for a muffler delete then pay this same guy to put the stock exhaust back on.. And aren't leases suppose to be cheaper options for people who don't drive much and don't want to deal with maintaining the vehicle?

One reason I will never again lease a car, I did it once but I never felt the car was mine to do what I wanted to with it...

The only slip fit is from cats to cat back , no slip fit after axle.

That pic alone is a good reason for muffler delete

honestly i wouldnt cut up the stock exhaust on a leased car. buy a cat-back and set the OE exhaust aside. when its time to turn the car in, put the OE exhaust back on. easy day. no cutting or worrying.

Is that for automatics only? My exhaust comes apart about a foot and a half from the muffler. I really didnt know autos were different....I wonder why?

the stock exhaust is one piece from cats back. no slip fit. That pic is from a auto. Here is the manual exhaust.

I would not cut the stock exhaust. They may not catch it but if they do it will cost you around $2000 to replaces it.
If you want to do a muffler delete get a take off stock exhaust and keep yours in tacked so you can just replace it.
Im near Buffalo NY. probably too far for you but $100 and you pick it up and its yours. it has 6000 miles on it. Its already cut for the muffler delete. I bought a cat back and no longer need it.

If you had to lease it and you only have a $200 budget for exhaust, I personally don't believe you should do anything to the car.
