Ginger gets a Braille light weight race battery!
So I have a goal of reducing Ginger's weight without taking anything away from being able to daily driver. I was a little worried about this battery not holding up, since I always have my Ac on, stereo blasting and raise/lower my top multiple times everyday. I have had it on for almost a week now and it has been GREAT! It actually has a little more voltage than the stock battery. Keep in mind I also have the ASP under drive pulley so the alternator is spinning slower than stock and the battery still hold up great. Only think I don't do anymore is sit in the car with it off and lights/stereo on or operate the top.
Stock battery is about 44 lbs and this one is just under 15 lbs. I also removed the compressor/slime and styrofoam holder. So all together I lost about 36 lbs. I used some foam pads I had laying around to secure the battery in the stock location. Cost of Today's mod: $158.52 Braille 2015 15 lb battery $158.52 I just checked Ebay and found one for $130 shipped

PCA is 1067, CA is 574 and CCA is 426. The stock battery says CCA 720.
They shipped it with a little hand written spec sheet that showed what my actual battery tested at. All the specs were higher than advertised, but I can't find it now. :( I live in Texas so I could go down on the CCA without a problem. They have bigger batteries with higher CCAs if you live in a colder climate. They offer a 6.6lb, 9lb, 11.5lb, 15lb, 17lb and 21lb battery. The 21lb actually has a higher CCA ratting than the stock battery, so it has more power and is still 23 lbs lighter. Here is the advertised specs. http://www.braillebattery.com/index....teries/b2015/#

That's quite impressive for a battery in such a small form factor.
I have an optima..not light, but it works. Last edited by Nvincent4708; 07-07-2011 at 12:17 PM. Reason: spelling |

I was wondering the same thing. If the alternator ever quits, will that Braille last anywhere nearly as long as a standard battery?
Alternatively, how would it fare in cold conditions? (Or does that matter, anymore? I remember when I was a kid, people having problems because it was too cold and the battery wouldn't turn the car over.)

Great product. Meet the USA rep at SEMA last year. I like all the options that they offer for batteries.

Alternator failures are not as common as they used to be.

But when they do happen it's usually 2 a.m. halfway between Glenwood, AR and Idabel, OK on a cold, lonely night on a stretch of road that doesn't see ten cars in an hour during the day.
Oh wait. That was a timing belt failure. In 1999. But you see my point

Can someone explain the difference from Cranking Amps (CA) and Cold Cranking Amps (CCA)? Technical specs page says 426 CCA and 574 CA for the B2015.
Is the stock battery 720 CA or CCA? |
