Meth vs E85

Been doing homework on my next upgrade to put me in the 750 hp range. Both will get me there.

My tuner says E85. I have no E85 readily around me, so I personally think it's pointless. I'm digging the Alky kits. Running the dual nozzle and running it on a progression set up. Say, when I'm 11lbs of boost and upwards.

Tuner says way more power gains in E85. Tuner has Meth available whenever I want it.

What would you guys do? I'm leaning towards Meth injection even if it's supposedly about 30-40 hp short than the gains I can get with e85. I just don't feel like hunting down e85. Are the gains that off? I've seen some dyno runs on Youtube (take it with a grain of salt of course) where folks have gotten a good 60-80 hp gain. I'm talking straight Meth, no mixture btw.

I called Kroger as they have notoriously had E85, but they have stopped carrying it at all their stores here where I live.

Meth will cost me $1300 installed. E85 will cost me $1800 installed.

How far down the rabbit hole are you willing to go?

The current fuel systems available for the DI cars have hard limits when using E85. Most of the results I have seen have only come from a mixture of E85/pump gas diluting the ethanol content down to E40/45. (FYI most pump E85 is between 70-82%)

To me, that is more trouble than it is worth when the car is delivering ~6-8mpg.

I've no 1st hand experience with Methanol but as long as the pump never fails or the tank is run dry, it boosts the fuel octane up to 100+ range.

I’d go meth for simplicity. I think an E85 swap is going to be pushing your fueling too much and you’ll have to mix and that’s a pain in the ass IMO. The only negative with meth is running completely out but if you’re mindful that probably won’t happen.

if youre leaving the fuel system stock then id say go with the meth kit and be happy with all the new power youll gain!

This is the exact opposite of what the local tuning shop told me. On a N/A car they see the most gains from E50-E65, after that they are only chasing a couple HP here and there.

Once you get into Forced they said the gains keep coming all the way up to the E85 point.

We are going to do the whole low side fuel system so. I like the idea of Meth, but Matt convinced me to go E85. So, that is the route I will take.

I was up there for 5 hours today getting a lesson on fuel so. After my schooling, E85 to me is the way to go. Besides, daily drive, I'll just run 93. But when I plan on roll racing, I'll make sure I'm 85.

I have a low side and the car is in the shop getting meth... I cant freaking wait lol.

considering how it ran on just E85 I cant even imagine what the ride home will be like.

So you are saying you didn't like the E85?

My problem with Meth and tell me I'm wrong. Once the resevoir runs out of Methanol, the system doesn't shut off correct? I wanted to go with the top Alky kit. I wish there was a way to run some kind of flex fuel kit on Meth. I guess if there is no Meth, there is no added HP at whatever boost limit we choose. At least that is my understanding.

Was thinking of water/meth injection as well. Seems safer. Shit. haha. I guess you can dilute the amount of methanol. Ugh. See, how you clowns got me double thinking. I was sold on E85. haha

I'll be running both straight 85 and 100% methanol on my zl1 w/ upper/lower. Should be fine with whichever you choose. I jsut didn't want to drill into my fuel tank to be able to run e85 solo w/o meth

^ Yea, I know either way is fine. Now I'm rethinking. I wanted Meth originally. After 5 hours at the shop, got sold on E85. Now I'm more confused than ever. I should prob just do what Matt says and roll with his decision. After all, he is the pro. I'm not. And has built many a many a many 1000 hp cars so. He never said Meth was bad, he just said he could get me more power from E85 so.
