The larger the ID, the slower the airflow moves through it untill you get high enough in the rpm range for the scavenging affect to really work. These things are only 376 CI, no doubt something over 400 CI could benefit from a larger primary to get the shear volume of air out of cylinder the large CI displaces, and then a 1-7/8" would probably work like the 1-5/8 on a 427ci engine. I guess i will now be known as the "Heretic" in the 5th gen community, i like it! Id like to see some hard eveidence from the MFG's who have been selling the notion that bigger is better when it comes to LT headers other than "because we say so" now pay us 1,xxx for these works of art with OEM quailty.

JRE already put an end to the header primary discussion. He did the dyno testing, bigger IS better in these engines!

You have to understand, what used to work in stock small blocks way back (1 5/8) is when there weren't any factory heads that could flow what the heads on these cars could flow. Thats why aftermarket heads dont always do much more than a set of port and polished factory heads dont already do. The angle and cfm capabilities of the heads is ridiculous and thats why they react better to bigger primary headers as opposed to previous engines.

Awesome numbers. These cars make amazing power with some minor mods. I'm making 475rwhp. with same type of mods you have. I was getting less power (before the SC install recently) because I chose a blower CAM which is a bit smaller than the one you have.

@ calbert1999, Yes they do make good power, I'm sure the power is now there with the matching S/C slapped on!! Have fun with it, that's what they were meant for!!

That Cam is very close to the Nickey Stage II grind, we do clearence the LS3 pistons as an added measure of insurance.

Not all Mustang Dynos read low. Some read high. You would need a stock car base line in order to have an Idea where you are at and measure the increase.
