2010 SS vs 2009 GT500
I am debating which of these cars to buy and am leaning heavily toward the GT500. Since this is a camaro board I figure you guys might have some input as to why I should get the camaro instead.
Here is my reasoning: I can pick them both up for around the same price, all the SS's I see are going for 36-38 K and I can pick up a used GT500 with 7000 miles for 37000 easy, less if I haggle them down. As far as the looks go I am indifferent, they both look pretty good. Performance: GT500 bone stock is a bit faster, I think MMFF ran a best of 12.2 with a stock one but typical times are mid-high 12's. I don't like to get into the mod vs mod arguement but if you get a new pulley and tune for the GT500 you can easily gain 100 hp for around 1000 dollars, also it's engine is all forged steel bottom end. The only advantage I can think of for the camaro is that I can get a brand spankin new car for the same price. Any input? |

Do not buy a used muscle car unless you know the owner and the history. Too many unknowns. You can buy a brand new '09 GT500 for verry low 40's, or a comparably equipped 2SS for ~$36k, so therein lies your best choices and your decision. If this is a daily driver, go Camaro. If this is a weekend toy-track car, go GT500. Can't go wrong either way.

Honestly drive both cars. Ive driven the 2010 gt back to back with the 2010 ss and prefered the mustang despite it being a bit slower. The sound the feel the visibility the car interaction is what I preferred. But to some they prefer being a lil more low slung and feeling a bit lower in the car. A mustang you kind of sit on the sit in the car. The camaro you sit in the seat in the car and it felt a good amount lower to me. But the visibility sucked in comparison plus the car just felt a lot more numb to me. Either car you cant go wrong with. my choice mustang. But like I said its all preference.

If you have no preference on which one looks the best, get the 500. Why aren't you shopping used Z06's |

As was already said, you really can't make a wrong decision with either car. Both are strong performers and terrific styling. The GT500, especially the later years, is a known quantity, not so much with the new Camaro.
Do a search and you will find plenty of pro's/con's for both cars in various threads. Good luck with whatever you decide on. |

09 GT500 is a good car, though I still hate the hood. Good performer though with a engine you have no worries in upgrading.
Camaro is proving to be a strong car, the LS series engines have always been good. My issues with the car is the visibility....but thats just me. Camaro's have a few other issues out of the block, but it is year one for them. Drive both, look a maint costs ect, make your decision. |

Well, stock for stock, GT500>Camaro in all regards. So, do you want the new or slightly used car?

Unless modded, you're still going to have a factory warranty on the GT500. The biggest question that it seems you'll have to answer is whether or not you want a brand new muscle car or a used one. You won't typically find too many GT500's with 7K on them that have been beat up on, the people that buy those cars aren't generally known to do dumb shit to them or with them. Drive them both and then follow your heart.

It was between a Camaro RS/SS or GT500 for me as well. I went w/ the GT500 and couldn't be happier. You won't be sad with either decision you make. I also plan to get a Camaro in the future pending on the Z28.

The only problem with the used gt500 is that...
a) its a used car b) there are tons of mustangs on the road c) mustang owners will try and pass off their gt or even V6 as cobras....when I see a gt500 I am always skeptical.

a) yes but the huge discount easily makes up for those few miles
b) I am already seeing what seems like as many Camaros as 05-09 STangs about here, and that is just after a fewmonths c) I have not really seen GT500 knockoffs like I used to Cobra knock offs |
