Door panel template

Does anyone know where I can get a door panel template?
I bought some custom vinyl and want to put in on the door
panels. If not, does anyone know an easy way I can cut the
vinyl so it will be a great fit? If I can't find a template I am going
to try to make one out of cardboard and then use that as a
template to cut the vinyl. My fear is I won't be able to cut the
cardboard as accurate as I want it to be

When I did mine I thought about making a template but you really dont need one. I just laid enough fabric to cover the panel then trimmed around where the new screws were going to go. It doesn't have to look pretty or be cut the exact shape/size since it will all be covered anyways once you put it back in the door.

I am not going to take the panels out of the doors.

I don't have a template, but I would suggest using something else instead of cardboard. The door panel is curved, and cardboard doesn't have enough give to get a proper template.

I would cut a little more than the panel and lay it on while it's on the door since your not taking the panel off. Then heat it up a bit and tuck it in best you can with something skinny like a scraper and cut around the panel

Actually, if you don't mind removing the door panel (not the insert but the whole door panel) you could make a template using the back side.

Stig- good suggestion on the cardboard. I wonder how well construction paper would work. I don't want to take the whole door panel out, everytime I've done this on my other cars I could never get it to fit right.

zkdreads- Please elaborate how you used painters tape, I don't get it.

Does anyone want to make $20? I will pay someone $20 for an ACCURATE template. I have the door ABL so I don't want the vinyl to go all the way to the top.

Is there something I can put on the circumference of the door panel and then transfer that to construction paper. I was thinking of using a dry erase marker because it won't dry right away, but not sure if it will transfer to the paper. I also thought of putting Vasoline on the circumference of the door panel with a paint brush and try to transfer that to construction paper. I don't really want the Vasoline on the door panel, it may effect on how the vinyl sticks.

Any other ideas?

Russ

When u make a template using painters tape, u literally tape everywhere u want the vinyl to cover...tape the outline, then fill in the space with more tape....when it lookslike what u want the vinyl to look like, pull it all off in one piece...then stick the design on paper or the vinyl and cut it out...then your vinyl will cover what the tape originall covered

The amount of time and effort that making a perfect template will take, you could just take the panels out. It's really not hard at all. I will actually surprised how easy it was

I let a pro trim my vinyl. Didn't have to remove the panels.
