Specific Question (V6 Automatic)

Hi.

Messing with Tapshift mode.

It's one thing to set the car to Sport mode, and hit the gas from zero to 60.

How does this translate in tapshift mode?

1st gear to 2nd gear @ 6000 RPM
2nd gear to 3rd gear @ 6000 RPM
3rd gear to 4th gear @ 6000 RPM?

Or is it different. It doesn't feel like the car gets much power in 1st and 2nd gear. Wondering what the best shift points are for the automatic (lfx 2LT), thanks.

In sport mode, the transmission should be hitting redline before shifting if you are doing a WOT run. Mine won't shift until it gets near 7,000 rpm.

You will also likely be faster doing a 0 - 60 run in sport mode as opposed to trying it in manual mode simply b/c the computer will time the shifts better.

In manual mode you'd need to hit the shift button at the perfect time. Hit it too early, and you miss out on some of the top end power. Hit it too late, and you'll bounce off the limited for a moment or two too long and lose time that way.

Even if you can keep traction, jamming the gas to the floor in first and trying to time the shift to 2nd at the perfect time is pretty tough without much practice.

thanks, KM. it's the practice that I want. related, is this why an automatic can beat a manual on the strip? simply better timing?

Driven perfectly, the manually is usually fasteer. But most drivers on the strip aren't perfect. The auto is just more consistent, and this is why in many cases the auto ends up winning the race.

Something I've noticed is that after hitting 3rd gear I lose my top end. I am flooring the pedal and there is no hard acceleration, just gradual. Is this normal in a V6?

Yes, that is the lack of horsepower (torque really). Supercharger fixes that.

I wish 5th & 6th gear was manual only in Sport mode... I don't want to be in 6th gear @ 40mph... Mashing the gas in 6th gear is like being stuck in quicksand. Have to remind myself to manually downshift (usually to 4th or 3rd) just to get a timely response.
