Unhappy Rear Enders a Trend?

WIth all the rear end crashes happening......is this a trend that we should be concerned about? Is there a physical defect about the car that is contributing to these crashes................like poor visibility of the brake lights?

While this will not help with plain gawkers, text messengers or dazed drivers, I found this to be helpful if I need to stop fast and worry less about being rear ended - http://www.autobarn.net/sudden-stop.html. Link also has video of it in-action. Its saved my ass a few times in my previous car.

Granted, not for anyone who wants a clean look but overtime you hardly notice it... Your preferred License Plate frame will fit over this - I have one a heavy chrome frame over the Sudden Stop on my wife's G6 Convertible - fits A-OK. There is no wiring required, it works by sharp deceleration. Its been installed over 4 years without need of a battery change.

Here's two pics and no, I don't work for them or the vendor... just looking to provide us an edge for those not paying attention.

It is just idiots on the road. The lights are very bright, has nothing to do with the car other than distracting idiots from stopping.

I don't think it's the gawkers either. I just think rear end collisions are increasing, due to texting while driving and tailgating.

its not the car, yes maybe somebody is gawking. But overall there is idiots out there and with the law of probability out there some cars will get jacked. But you have to look at your own driving habits. Rear ends most of the time are not your fault, but how you drive can contribute to it, if your making quick stops, pulling out from people and weaving in and out of traffic can not help your cause. I would imagine some people have contributed to there own cause. The last rear end I was in, somebody pulled out in front of me, which was cool to because there was witnesses the other chick got the ticket.

I don't know what's up with Camaros being rear-ended, but I usually get rear-ended while waiting at a stop, not while stopping short.

And yes, I get rear ended often enough to say it like that. :(

It's not the cars fault, it's people. And this is a big generalization/sterotype, but until they outlaw texting and cell phones, this sort of stuff will continute to happen. I now refuse to even talk on the phone in the car unless its through bluetooth, as both our cars will have now. People have forgotten the #1 rule of operating something that can kill somebody - pay attention.

They'll also have to outlaw stereos and passengers, which could be implicated in the majority of times I've been rear-ended.

I read an article in the paper a few weeks ago that stated rear end collisions have increased with the expansion of red light cameras. Yellow lights people used to run they are now slamming on the brakes.

I got my bluetooth hooked up for talking which is great. And I stopped texting while driving. If I'm sitting at a light I'll reply to a text real fast, but if I get one I just ignore it until I come to a stop.

Plus it's kind of the law and I don't need any tickets or insurance rates being jacked.

Are certain colors being rear ended more than others? I have a silver 04 Acura TL and for some reason people don't see silver. I had a silver Civic a few years back and had the same problem. The Camaro will NOT be silver, grey or anything close.

I guess thats incase they miss the four brake lights and the light inside the rear window.
