Last night I chewed on the idea of an exhaust system. On my '81Z, I have full length Dynomax cyclone headers to dual 40-S flowmasters. I very much like 'em, but I'm not sure what to get (when the time comes) for my 2010. The plan is basically this:

huggers or fulls
3" cross pipe
3" exhaust all the way back
Hi-flo cats (to stay within regs)
Dual Super 44 Flowmasters

So the question is,... what is the performance difference between the huggers and full length headers?

Typically, because full length (long tube) headers promote scavanging better, they will make more power and torque than block huggers, because they are shorter in length, and don't allow velocity to pick up as much.

I, personally, are not sold on any shortie header (or block hugger.) If power is tha goal, long tubes are the way to go. However, because of emissions, that will not be an option. If a person just likes to say they have headers, that's one thing, but if they want power, shorties won't benefit too much. Look for testing on crate engines and see how efficient the newer manifolds flow. They aren't that bad.

For me, I'll be planning on keeping the manifolds, focusing on the catback, and keep it all emissions legal (for Cali'.) It will be easy enough to add an intake and pulley (hopefully) with a tune and get a lot more power; look at the old Cobras. Rediculous power from just those additions.

Get yourself a nice set of ceramic or jet hot coated headman Headers. Long Tubes

Yeah the headers on my '81Z are the DynoMax cyclone ceramic coated headers. Love 'em!!!! And yeah, I'm all about the power!

the only prob will be having to wait till an aftermarket company makes an aftermarket exhaust for the new camaro. dont expect to be able to take a set of long tubes from an LS1 or any other SBC for that matter and think you'll be able to just "drop" them in there and have them work. .
