V6 manual shift, Big problem

Just wondering if any one out there has a V6 manual tranny? Anyway GM put the reverse right next to 1st which is left and up and since the gears are so close its very easy to put the car in reverse when you think its in 1st.
Yet on the V8 its in the right place, over to the right and down. Every 4, 5 or 6 speed I ever owned has always been over to the extreme right and down, what a problem with this Tranny. I hope they do a recall on the V6.

Yeah I was told out here that there may be a recall, I hope so. I just think the gears are too close together and that creates a safety problem which should be recalled. Anyway see you guys soon leaveing Arizona April 13th will be in NY around April 21 or the 22nd. Looking forward to those Camaro meets. Cold-air intake is a big thing out here, you get 25 more horsepower so they say. Take care and see ya soon.

Not likely. That is the design of the transmission unit they sourced for the car, not a defect. I believe it's the same pattern in the CTSs. There are a few different cars out there with reverse to the left and up.

I love the location of reverse on my M6. When I first got it, I threw it into reverse a couple of times when the red light turned green, but I quickly learned I needed to lay off of the "left" a little when pushing it into 1st.

You'll get used to it and find your own groove!

My M6 celica had the same shift design, but when you when into R, the car would beep to let you know. In the camaro, you just see an R on the screen.

Also, in both cars, it's very hard to shift into reverse by mistake because of the extra effort it takes to get into the reverse gear.

I just go into second then straight up into first. You can't go down if you're too far left.

My car does beep when you go into reverse. Unless my car is unusual, I can't imagine anyone mistaking the extra effort it takes for reverse as first. I mean, it really takes some effort.

I also have Corvairs. The 4speed Corvair is the same way. There's just this little catch that you overcome to get into reverse then up. Just like today's Camaro. This is not a smart comment, but I've never heard any Corvair drivers complain.

No, the V6 will beep and say R on the DIC when you put it in reverse.

I have an earlier V6 with no backup sensors.

I do find myself shifting to 2nd and then straight up to verify I'm in 1st.
