What all do I need for a cam swap?

So I have an l99. I've debated twin turbo and supercharges but I think I just want to stay n/a. So I'd like to get the lpe gt-11 cam. I want to add gmpp l92 heads as well. I know I need a DOD and VVT delete as well as valve springs. But do I need anything else?

maybe i am wrong but i thought L92 heads are the same as the ones you got.


but to answer your question a lot of people upgrade or replace everything while they are in there...pump, chain etc. Litle88 has a nice list of to do's and can probably correct me on the head thing. As stated above the tuner is pretty important.

Yeah but gm has a ported and polished set of the l92 heads. They are pretty cheap and flow pretty well. Tuner is for sure a big part of it but do you really need to replace everything?

need is a tricky word. i replaced the valvetrain goodies and kept vvt and the stock pump. my cam is pretty mild and my heads were port polished and milled by west coast heads

Some are needed not all but of course recommended, l99 to ls3 conversion kit, melling oil pump, c5r timing chain, pushrods, ud pulley,trunion upgrade,ls2 timing chain damper,btr valve springs,SLR lifters,and of course the camshaft+tune.

Pump and chain are nearly mandatory.
Trunion Upgrade is also highly recommended at this time as well.

Seemed like I heard that the oil pump on the l99 was a pretty good one because of the DOD. If it needs replaced then who makes the best oil pump? I'm really big about doing things right the first time.

If your going to go Ls3 and are going in why not upgrade?

L92 heads are cheap but you get what you pay for they like L99's have the heavy Ss valves why not get the hollow Ls3's and the inconel exhaust valves or just sell your heads on Ls1tech or here for 4-500 bucks and buy a set of Ls3's from WCCH?

Then get a set of Brian Tooley SLR lifters A C5r timing chain, a gasket kit for heads and cam install. A melling 10296 because if iirc the l99 pump might not work with the Ls3 cover but don't quote me. A set of BTR platinum springs and Arp hardware only because of the durability and because you can reuse the bolts over and over the GM crap you cannot. Trunion upgrade and you'll need a TQ converter. Ps there are better cams out there than the GT-11, why are you choosing that cam?

That's a long list of stuff but hey might as well get it over with. I actually emailed futral motorsports and hopefully they can help me out with a cam. I'll be getting ahold of circle d more than likely when its time for the converter.

It isn't hard to install the cam but to make it even easier, take the front end off. You get a straight shot in with the condenser lifted up. It makes it so much easier to get to all the front bolts, etc.
