OK....... well remember that CTS-V Challenge?

Well some guy in an M3 did so well, that they needed to bring out some pro-drivers in the CTS-V to beat him.

Well. Apparently that made BMW very happy.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=330744

They made a big deal out of it, gave the guy some free stuff and a free vacation. lol.

This is very impressive driving, and it is good to see BMW giving him recognition. The M3 is a respectable ride, so I'm not surprised to see that it would take some special attention from GM to beat it. Lutz is probably a great driver, his job is in management, not driving.

Btw. Just for the record, the next M5 is receiving a 550bhp twin turbo V8.... so it probably won't be any faster than the V.

The M3 driver is a hell of a good driver indeed, but for everyone else...seriously, you couldn't beat a 70+ year old man?

Just goes to show how awesome Lutz is.

I know. He didn't win...but he doesn't race professionally, either, and he was right up there with the rest!! Go Bob!

"Almost won"? Since when is 4th "almost winning?" CTS V's owned the challenge, with some competition from a couple of young guns in comparable competitors cars doing pretty well. Yes he did beat Lutz, but yea, i seen the track, it was a bit wet, and Lutz is 77. So he did a pretty good job, but not "almost winning".

Anyways, good of BMW to show him some recognition though!!

Well the challenge was issued by Lutz. And Lutz made the rules. And he beat Lutz. If Lutz thought his age was going to conflict with his success in the competition then I would question why he issued the challenge to begin with.

If GM hadn't brought in paid professional drivers (which the M3 driver was not) he would have won.

Here is the top 4. (Lutz finished 7th)

1. John Heinricy (Cadillac test driver)- Cadillac CTS-V: Top Lap: 2:46:560

2. Aaron Link (Cadillac development engineer)- Cadillac CTS-V: Top Lap: 2:48:902

3. Brian Redman- CTS-V: Top Lap: 2:49:596

4. Michael Cooper (Who is this guy?)- BMW M3: Top Lap: 2:50:424

It doesn't say who Brian Redman is, but if he doesn't work for GM then he is the only amateur driver to beat Cooper.

Additionally, this article cites Redman as a 'ringer driver' as well.

meh, whatever. Nothing's to say the M5 Driver didn't have lots of experience...there's no way anyone could have navigated the track without it. AND...like the one slow CTS-V, this car could have been unusually fast...

I really don't care too much, they're all fast, I just wanted to pop up those times.

Both are very capable cars.
