OMG, the dust (the humanity)!

so i got CGM specifically because i knew if i had gotten black i would be out with my car every day making sure she was clean. Well the good news is with the CGM is unless its in the middle of the day and sunny you cant really tell its dirty. the bad news... i know she is dirty because the blue just doesnt pop quite right.

So far the only way i have really gotten her clean is just to wash the car down. I get a buck of water (just water) during sunset, my microfiber mitt, and my towel and go rinse her. I have caught myself starting to do this every other day, and almost did it twice yesterday after doing a hard core clean in the morning. there has to be someway to dust the car without having to wash and dry her, or am i best just sticking to the tried and true method and not worry about it?

I did try just using a dry wash mitt but after about a quarter of the way through it just starts moving the dust around instead of picking it up.

I've suffered from this "sickness" too.

You have a couple of options;

1. Cal. Duster. I finally, after considering one for a looonnnggg time, bought one. I've used it once, as I'm "anal"/concerned about its claim to not scratch when used properly.

2. a spray detailer. But, it depends on how dusty/dirty your car is. I'm assuming its a "daily driver"? If you use this when the car is too dirty, you could cause problems. That being said, the next time you wash the car, follow up by wiping it down with a spray detailer (I prefer Zaino Z6) which will help to repell dust.

I know it's tought to learn to live with dust, (I still despair over it at times, and my SS is a "garage queen". ) but consider, each time you're touching/washing the paint surface, its that many more opportunities for causing blemishes, ie; swirl marks.

I love Black and CGM, but that is exactly why I got Silver Pearl. I am so OCD that it would drive me insane.

Be careful, remember the more you touch the car, the more fine scratches you put in it, no matter what method you use. The less you rub, wash, california dust, the better the finish will stay.

I was just researching a car care company I just found, and I noticed this product: http://www.productioncarcare.com/sho...spx?itemid=614 It's supposed to help reduce 30%-70% of dust depending on the place and driving conditions.

Anyway, I've had a black car, and I would wax it once every two weeks, and power wash it in between. I have a CGM on the way, and I was hoping I the dust would stay away from it.

Are California dusters non abrasive?

California Duster. I was also skeptical, but after many car shows and watching guys dust off $100k cars, I decided to get one. Love it!!!

Yeah I saw a few CGMs and they look like a color that won't get dirty easy, but that dust shows on it when the sun is hitting directly. I'm not gunna kill myself washing my car and stuff, my dealershyp has giving me free carwashes for a year. I'm going to go buy a few Zaino products if my dealershyp doesn't already use em and tell em to only use those products on my car as well as a 'dust repeallant'. Hope me getting a carwash every week or two weeks will be more than what I need to keep it clean.

You could also rinse your car, don't have to wash with soap. Then use a detailer spray to give it a shiney dust free coat and to elimate the water spots. You could also get one of those special dusters they use for showroom cars.

I have the IBM paint, I run into a similar problem with truly seeing the metallic sparkle and the aqua colors with dust on the car. It still looks good, but just not as good. =]

I've had good luck with the Cal. Duster, just be sure to glide it over the surface, never drag it across. I've already used it a few times, but if it rains at all and dries, its not going to work in my experience. Total time to do the entire car is ~5 min. After each panel I run it across my hand as a way to knock off any excess particles & dust. Don't use it on wet bird droppings, for obvious reasons.
