Badge Delete Gave Me Trouble

So went ahead and started the badge delete and ran into some trouble I was not expecting.

After removing the badges and cleaning the black goo I found that I could clearly see where all of the badges were on the driver’s side, the passenger side came out perfect and the little SS on the back was flawless also, smooth as a babies butt.

Hand rubbed with wax with no improvement... looking close it appeared the paint was literally rippled where the badges were and I could see perfect outlines of the letters in the paint with absolutely no residue remaining from the glue.

Broke out the buffer and tried to hit it with polish… no improvement. Switched to some compound and was able to reduce the effect significantly… Stopped working it for now and waxed it back up.

Just was not expecting this at all, anyone else run into this and have a good solution other than my approach?

Sounds to me that one fender was repainted at some point without removing the emblems first.
just a guess.

I did a badge delete as well. Once I removed the badges I used Goo Gone to remove the adhesive residue with a Magic Eraser. This left small scratches so I used Adams Fine machine polish on a MF then some Americana paste wax.

Looks good.
Cheers

Wow, I've never heard of anyone having this problem. Glad you were able to correct most of it. I did mine using a hairdryer and slowly lifting the edge while keeping hot air on it as I slowly pulled on the emblems/letters. I could see the adhesive pull right off the car and stick only on the back of the emblems. No residue or glue left on the car whatsoever. I would never use fishing line or something like that where all the glue remains on the car. Then you have to clean it off, reseal/glaze and wax. Yours may of had some sort of paint/repaint issue. I was at the dealership last week checking out the new cars on the lot and I couldn't believe how many of them had small dings on the doors/sides. That's a lot of touch up work they had to do. Post a pic!

Thought of that - While that is possible I do not think this was the case as I cannot see someone masking off the letters so well that I could not find any paint on the emblems or edges of the glue.

Not a paint expert but I have seen crappy paint jobs before.

I don't think he is messing with you, Usually you notice this due to the area around badged being faded and the area under the badge (once removed) is like the day it was painted... the sun will help fade the paint/clearcoat... might help hide it.. might not.

Not sure if this is what you are describing or not but.. it's a shot in the dark.

Nope, there were clear ripples in the paint making the outlines, not a color change... and just on that one side. Still has just a little bit remaining after buffing. Just did not want to buff it out too much.
