Would you trade your ZL1 for a Z/28 if...
If you find out that the price for the new Z28 was the same as what you could get as a trade in for your ZL1, would you?

Now thats a tough one, When they come out Im going to my dealer to test drive one.The zl1 is my weekend car and track day car, Man i'm torn apart now. If they offer the ac and a radio dam It would be the perfect WEEKEND/ track day car, Yep im torn apart over the two. Want to see some vids on the track of the z28 ive been looking cant find any yet. Wow its really a hard decision at this time.

Nope. Not a chance. A single purpose car (Z/28) stripped down of all creature comforts to gain 3 seconds on a track I will never drive on? To me, there is absolutely ZERO reason to trade my ZL1 for the Z/28 when $5K in mod's to my ZL1 would crush the Z/28 AND I get A/C, Radio, Magnetic Ride, etc...etc.
Let that sink in. $5K in mod's to a ZL1 would make the Z/28 obsolete!! Why doesn't anyone else get that??? |

No, two different vehicles, to me the ZL1 is a cruiser with the basic comforts. The Z28 is more of a collectable. The people that I know with track cars don't drive them on the street, they are not legal, I don't race but I know you can build a car for the track (not professional) for less money.
I bought the ZL1 because I wanted a car that performs well and I can drive in comfort. I do think that GM messed up on the badging of the cars, I think if you take each car and matched them up to the 69 versions they got them backwards, the 427 (more of a track car) fits the ZL1 better.

no.....although, I have a '69 Z/28 and a '70 Chevelle SS454; neither has a/c, both have manual transmissions...I like the new Z/28 concept, but....I could live with no a/c and manual, but, how about a radio?.....anyway, I'm sticking with the ZL1....

I wouldn't trade my Z. It doesn't matter how I feel, every time I open my garage she makes me smile and proud to own here.
I must say though that I am honestly disappointed with GM. I wish they would have introduced many features of the z/28 ( seats, cai, brakes....) last year when they put the zl 1 on the market and advertised and promoted it as the ultimate road corse ready pony car. I hope GM has a heart for us track fanatic 12/13 Zl1 owners and will offer a fair priced performance package to get some of those goodies. If not there are many good aftermarket companies to solve this problem. At the end OEM'S have to sell cars. Introducing this radical version of the gen5 to the market at the end of its life cycle was the right move. |
