Brake fluid can do that. Nasty stuff on paint.

I can't see how the brake caliper could have leaked onto that spot. The calipers are way inboard and if it dripped, wouldn't it have also corroded inside the rim?

this is what i had about a couple months ago... I bought my camaro used a couple months ago and didnt notice it till maybe after owning it 2 weeks but i washed it one day and saw all these spots on every rim, literally all 4... and I had washed it once before but i only clean my wheels with car soap so I know I didnt do anything wrong so I took it to the dealer and showed them, they took pictures and said they would order me new ones since I only had 6800 miles on it and a year left of warranty, the service manager said it was a common thing on these cars, he told me it was from people using certain wheel cleaners, the harsh chemicals eat the clear coat. so if your still under warranty get them replaced.

Think I have figured it out, I think it leaking from the bleeder bolt, and dripping down, and when the car is sitting unlevel it flows out to the rim. |

That is not caused by brake fluid . Your brakes are the same as mine . Only one piston on the back side along with the bleeder . If it were brake fluid you would have bigger issues than chipped paint on the rim. Also if it were brake fluid that caused that you would be missing a lot more paint on the back side and inside of the wheel . Run your fingers along the inside of the wheel , do you feel brake fluid . You can tell if there was brake fluid on your rim just by feel .That was caused by moisture getting under the paint and bubbling it up .

Since we are on this topic I have a couple questions to build on.
How to reduce brake dust? Can rim rash from curbs be repaired?
