I think they used pzero's as well

Ok, why didn't they use an SRT8? The 5.7 Hemi isn't all that, regardless of what the numbers say. I want the Camaro to win, but I want it to beat the best the competition has to offer, ala the 2011 Mustang instead of a 2010 Mustang. It should have been an SRT8.

As a side note, could explain some of the 1/4 mile difference between the '11 Mustang-'10 Camaro. Just throwing that out there, even though I know it probably doesn't mean squat, lol.
hoonin':
aggressively flogging a car, to the point of being nearly reckless.

The GT, SS, and R/T are all direct competitors. The SRT8 gets priced out of their league.

The 1/4 mile difference is easy to explain. The Camaro weighs more with about the same power. Its slower.

Nice story and all taken as tongue in cheek. Bet they all had fun though.

Wait... Isn't winning the longest time without traction contest a bad thing? lol

Fail at reading?
Though the Mustang GT's new engine is rated at 412 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque, those peaks arrive rather late in the power band. The 412 ponies require a screaming 6,500 rpm, while the torque isn't available until 4,250 rpm. This particular Mustang, a California Special Edition, wore 19-inch wheels inside 245/45R19 all-season Pirelli P Zero Neros and was packing an optional 3.73 rear axle ratio.

Make no mistake here: The new 5.0-liter V8 is a wonderful piece of engineering and likely the sweetest-driving V8 Ford has ever installed in a regular passenger car. But when it comes to infantile burnouts, it's weak sauce.

I don't know about nearly reckless lol...but hoonin' = burnouts, powerslides, cookies, and other reprobate behavior. You know, the real reasons most people want a big v8? Out of my ass statistic: maybe 10% of Camaro owners will see a racetrack, but 90% will do a burnout .

More un-necessary "Mullet" comments!

But this does seem to demonstrate... more liters = more rubber left on pavement!

So I'm suppose to be happy because my 426hp camaro doesn't get good enough traction to beat a 412hp mustang GT. That test speaks volumes and it only makes us camaro guys look worse.

Damn...I can't even begin to think how it went 3x longer than the mustang...not because it's a mustang...but what could be so different to make such a substantial difference? Is the traction that much worse?

He should have just launched in second gear on the camaro... would have been MUCH further.

I'm betting you could get close to 280 feet with a stock Camaro using just second gear.

My kind of video! loving it!

Granted I'm at work and couldn't watch the video with sound; so I don't know if they turned off all driver's aids, but assuming they did then the Camaro's "lack of traction" in this case is due mostly if not solely to its greater HP and Torque numbers versus the other two candidates, not due to any negative characteristic. If you don't want these bragging rights, then trade your SS in on a V6...or, you could just simply leave traction control ON. Nothing against you, I just don't see how this "makes us Camaro guys look worse".

By the way, as for the debate on whether this was a GT or V6 Mustang, at about 3 minutes and 5 seconds into the video, you can see the letters "GT" imprinted on one of the spokes of the rear wheel on the Mustang.

Are you saying a mere 14 more HP and who knows much hits the ground is solely responsible for the camaro's performance/lack of traction in this "contest" ?

Going to have to disagree with you on that one.
