And 305 square tires.
But, it does look like this car has a good chance of beating the Z/28. Likely more power and substantially lighter.

Current estimates peg the GT350R in the 3,450-3500lb range. Some have even speculated 3,350-3,400lbs depending on how much under the GT the GT350 is

The Z/28 weighs 3,840 lbs giving the GT350 a potentially 350+ lb advantage with more power. Maybe thePill isn't as crazy as we tend to think...

Ford has said the GT350 weighs "less" than the Mustang GT, presumably a base GT with the PP (3,730lbs roughly). Lets assume it's 75lbs less (ultra conservative estimate, some people are reporting the GT350 for an aluminum K-frame, if that's the case then we're looking at closer to 150lbs less), that would put a GT350 at 3,655. Take 150lbs from that? 3,500lb GT350R with "more than 500 hp" (most estimates put it at 525) and "more than 400tq". Lighter, more power, better balance...hmm |

It weighs 130-lbs less than the regular version. 52-lbs alone coming from the wheels (wow) and the rest from the other weight reduction like no ac, back seats, etc.

Just goes to show what so many have been saying for so long. Engineering a ponycar to do well on a track is no exclusive to GM engineers. Any car company can do it as long as they have the corporate backing to pursue it.

And you don't think that's possible?
The Z/28 was faster than the C7 Z51 during the Lightning Lap wasn't it?

I can see the R version beating out the Z28, but depending on its price it may be in z06 territory and that's a whole other animal. As for the regular 350 being a better track car than the stingray, the base stingray is 3298 pounds, it might be close but I doubt its overcoming that weight difference.
