Do you find the brake light are any dimmer with this mod? Or is it pretty reflective to compensate for covering the partially up?

I seem to notice that there is not as much reflection on cars behind me, but it doesnt seem too much dimmer.

Awesome DIY,and write-up! Liked it so much I copied the dimensions. Then I got to thinking a person could make a blind (block off the whole tail light),and cut what ever design they wanted.But I also want the rear end visible you know how some clowns are at running up on you at stop lights. I do have 1 question. Did you paint the blind on the outside? Side facing the lens? Great job. Thanks for sharing!

1st reason, these are not lights glued onto the inside of the lens.
2nd reason, the depth effect is NOT the same, these are in the middle of the housing not against the lens. More like a concept look than adding a strip of light to the lense.

Did this yesterday and have to say that the instructions were pretty "spot on". Used the same cut out dimensions and lens cut marks and they fit perfectly. An easy way to line everything up is to shine a flashlight through the bulb hole. We also played around a little and drilled holes in the plate to see if we could get a deeper affect, but it didn't look right. The red lens is cut weird, kinda like a bunch of small prisms. That made the light from the drilled holes refract in different directions. Taped the holes with aluminum tape and reinstalled. Looks very cool. There's more than enough light shining around the block off to be easily seen. Driving around last night had me noticing everyone elses taillights. Mine has more light shining through than many other cars in OEM form. If you're that worried about the brightness, you can buy direct replacement LED taillight bulbs.

You really are only limited by your imagination, with this mod.

Must say this is an amazing write up as well as mod it self. I can't wait to give this a try myself. I can't state how much I like this mod. For me, this is the type of mod I love, the ones where pure ingenuity comes out. Yes this is a cheap mod but a very professional looking and easy mod. If someone didn't know any better, they would think that someone shelled out 100s of dollars for this.

I did have one question on your project through. How did you come up with the half moon shape? Was it it completely free hand drawn or did you go by something or what? Is there anyway that you could post a measurement from the other side of the tab down to the bottom of the half moon? On the 1 inch side. I also agree on painting the outside face if the plate to better the look during the day as this will darken that area of the light while leaving the other side silver. This will allow the light to be reflected much better within the light and not minimizing loss of light output. Once again, great write up and very nice job. Thanks.

ok I'm stupid I guess, how do you
1. get the bezels off.
2.How in the hell do you get to the bols/nuts to remove the lights.
I already broke a tab on the one bezel,thenI thought I better ask for help!
