Dropping Performance Models?
Ok, what's this all about on CNN.com. Is this rumor or are they seriously considering this?
"New government fuel economy regulations also face GM as it emerges from bankruptcy -- 39 miles per gallon for cars and 30 mpg for trucks by 2016. GM likes to brag about all the cars it makes that get 30 miles per gallon but it is still a long way from 39 mpg. It has already announced it is discontinuing its five high-performance models. Expect other high-horsepower models like Camaro to vanish as well. Anyone for a four-cylinder Corvette?" From: http://money.cnn.com/2009/05/27/auto...ion=2009052717 |

this has been well gone over. Its not just GM. And te 39 is an average not for every car. Gm is pretty close to that 39 average is right now. This is not new, what many you dont know is this, in the past car companies had to make so many V6's to the V8's they made, and this has been going on for a while, even during your beloved republican party.

I wasn't so much concerned with the mileage ratings as I was with the comment that they plan on killing off the Camaro.

Who said anything about "beloved republican party"? The V8 Camaro is close to 39? I plan on keeping my V8 Camaro for a long time. So if car companies HAD to make so many V6's to the V8's, what makes you think the car companies won't be forced to drop V8's period? I don't care which party is running the show, the government is not going to tell me what I have to drive! |

I'm pretty sure it was on the average. That's how Toyota is going to be able to keep making the Tundra. They have the Prius to help average out the fuel economy.

Who says a turbocharged or supercharged 4 cylinder won't happen. I think they need to put cars on diets too.

With fuel prices rising and the demand for alternate fuel source being ever on the minds of the mass public I would expect to see more of this in the near future so get me while you can. And even though I would like to believe that the performance industry is the majority we are not. I real don't know what the future brings other then change.

Future of the Camaro
I know this is just a reporters quote but it is getting scary.
From CNNFN website: GM Article: It has already announced it is discontinuing its five high-performance models. Expect other high-horsepower models like Camaro to vanish as well. My guess is they will build them through at least spring or mid summer of 2010 but after that it's anyone's guess. |
