I want to upgrade my ZL1 to get a little more HP. The problem is that the dealership I bought it at (in Texas) threw in a lifetime powertrain warranty. Now, I am really hesitant in getting any upgrades for fear of voiding the warranty. I do know that whatever mod I make would have to be proven to directly cause whatever failure I take it to the dealership for, but I have also heard that reprograming the computer will void the warranty completely. I have read a couple forum posts that say the dealership can install an upgrade package for 1000-1500 that will give 60-75 hp increase (I'm thinking it is just a reprogram, CAI, and maybe a pulley upgrade). Has anyone heard of this and will this void my warranty if the dealership installs it? Also, if you have heard of it, which dealership would do it? I have called around and had no luck. Thanks!

I haven't heard of that kind of package from a dealership, but there are tons of them floating around from sponsors on the marketplace (Maybe Becky D from Rodgers Chevrolet has something along these lines? She's done special packages in the past). With a CAI you'll be fine warranty-wise, but upgrading anything else will definitely be pushing it. Like you said, they'll have to prove your upgrade caused the malfunction, but with a Z, that'd be a heart breaker for sure it it didn't pan out for you. The best advice I can give is to find a shop with the best reviews and have them do the work. If it's done right the first time, you wouldn't worry about your powertrain anyways. With your Z, I don't think you're going to find an upgrade in power from anything "warranty safe". Headers, pulleys, and a tune will be your best bet for the good ol' "butt dyno". Keep us posted!

Thanks for the info. I was thinking the same thing. I think having the warranty is actually a bad thing. If I didn't have it, I wouldn't even think twice about upgrading it. Oh well, I will have to settle for 580 hp for awhile.

Isn't it great when you have to "settle" for 580hp

I heard there was a car enthusiast meet at the Home Depot on Wells Rd in OP Thursday at 7pm in honor of the late Paul Walker.
