Throttle body bolts.
So I did something stupid today. I took off my throttle body and cleaned it and I went to put it back on and snapped three of the bolts. I was using a torque wrench at 106in lbs and when I was tighting them I thought I felt the wrench click but instead the bolts snapped. I got all the rest of the bolts out. So I was wondering can I get new one's that are stronger and does Harbor freight sell them? I need them by tomorrow. Thanks all.

They are M6-45mm bolts. You can find them at home depot or lowes if you need them local. Class 12.9 will be the strongest proof strength bolts.

Did you buy the torque wrench from Harbor Freight? I just returned one that I had purchased from them. It didn't appear to be releasing even on the lightest of settings.

I would think you'd strip the intake before the bolts break.

Ok I got the bolts from Ace Hardware. Only problem is I got 3 out of the 4 all the way in. The 4th is stripped but it's in half way. If I go to a dealer will they retap the threads or will I have to buy a whole new manifold?

I thought the wrench clicked buy it was the bolt breaking. The original bolts seem weak and brittle. |

well you will have to have the car towed or remove the manifold. dont start it. the dealer i believe will want to replace the intake when all you need is the brass insert. you should be able to find one dont know were.

A couple of years ago when I was changing my strut brace, I needed a torque wrench rated in inch-pounds, bought one (don't remember from where but probably Harbor Freight), but when I went to tighten the bolts, it seemed I was turning them far more than I thought they needed to go, but the torque wrench wasn't clicking yet.
I finally decided to go buy one of the old-fashioned beam style torque wrenches so I could SEE the beam deflect. Worked like a champ. I still ended up turning the bolts more than I thought they would, but evidently that was because there were plastic washers underneath the heads of the bolts that were deforming as they were supposed to. I strongly suspect your torque wrench is either not working properly or you set it to the wrong setting. I know this sounds incredibly stupid, but make sure you are tightening them to INCH pounds and not FOOT pounds??? |

Harbor freight is the last place I'd buy a precision tool

For torque wrenches I use snap on, Mac, or precision instruments. As snap on and Mac get some of there's from precision. Some things you can cheap out on. Others your better off buying the best.
