If you don't stop rubbing it, it is going to need glasses.

My 1LE is RRM too and I live a mile from a paved road! Needless to say it is only driven on dry sunny days, like today! And I go 13 miles per hour to the pavement! Car gets dusty quickly. I used Chemical Guys Speedy Wipe on it yesterday and that did help some. It has a static reducing agent in it to help reduce insulative static build up that attracts the dust.

I am intrigued by the ground strap theory, I need to look into that further. I am an engineering consultant and do ESD surveys and audits for electronics and plastics plants. I understand ESD well and not sure I am buying into these. Could they help ground the car...to some extent, but NOT your paint or plastic. And...they will only be grounded when the strap is on actual ground or concrete since it is hydroscopic. But will not be affective on asphault. Paint is an insulator, not a conductor, so surface charges on the paint cannot be removed, prevented, or discharged by the ground strap. You cannot ground insulators, so the plastics in the car are also completely un-affected by the ground strap no matter what surface you are on. It MIGHT have some very minimal affect on the dust sticking due to occasionally grounding out the metals and lessening the build up on the surfaces. But as soon as you rub on the paint, the charges build on the insulative surface and cannot be discharged by this strap. You would need one huge air ionozer to do that! LOL.

Yes, it goes under the car. Best to hide it near the center of the car. Find a good location where there's an easy to reach bolt that you can mount the strap to.

So it bolts on underneath and drags the ground?

Back in the day ( 60's ) in New Jersey you never saw a Buick Duce and a Quarter without 2 ground straps hanging off the rear bumper . Most also had curb feelers too.
I think I may try a hidden ground strap under the Camaro ,the dust problem here in Phoenix is insane.

I find it is just the brake dust that collects on mine. Its not on the front of the car but shows up behind the front wheels and then gradually covers the back of the car. The sides, not the trunk lid but yes cross the back.

There are a few quick detailing sprays out there that have anti-static properties. My 1LE is RRM and while dust does settle on it, it blows right off when driving. I use a combination of Adam's and Zaino products. The Zaino products I use are specifically quick detailers with anti-static properties. Between the California duster and the quick detailers I can usually go a couple of weeks without a wash. This is in San Diego.

Sometimes my car doesn't look that dirty until I touch it! Once I touch it, then I have to wash it!!!

I keep thinking of trying to wipe my car down with one of those Bounce dryer sheets after I wash to see if that would get rid of the static problem. But then I kind of enjoy washing my car so I just do that.
