Spare Tire Question

My dealer was finally able to make the changes to my son's 2SS this week and he asked me again about the "spare tire". I told him to omitt it.

My son being in the USAF who will be doing more long distance travel at odd hours (he like to drive at night) and through lightly populated hours may want the security of the spare vs the goop and air pump.

Can anyone tell me if the spare fits nice and neat into a well in the trunk floor or is it just mounted inside of the trunk taking up space. For $150 I may ask my dealer to add that back in to his order.

Thanks in advance.

If your dealer is giving you a spare tire he is being generous. It has been stated the 2SS does not come with a spare due to weight. It comes with a "fix a flat" kit. I do not believe there is a well for the tire. You could put it in the trunk, but I would think there would be little space left for anything else.

I didnt think that you could get the spare tire option with the SS or cars with 20" wheels? My guess is that there is room for an 18" spare tire but not a 20".

According to this thread it is not an option for the SS

As for the air and fix a flat the air is nice because if you dont have a blow out you can air up the tire and try to make it to a gas station. And it is handy if you need to change air pressure at the track.

Yea I thought that the spare wasn't even an option on the SS because the spare won't fit over the brimbos.

My bad, forgot about the bigger SS tires/wheels. I had an 03 Z06 that didn't have a spare nor run-flats and they had an air pump and the goop. I had a bad experience with a flat in single digit temps. Man it was a mess getting the goop to flow and all I had were some nice leather dress gloves.

After that I remembered to carry some work gloves and a plastic tarp.

Guess I'll have my son do the same. Thanks for the reminder about the SS being different.

Or you could do what I plan on doing. I won't use the trunk hardly any so after a few months after the Camaro has been out, I'll be checking the local junkyards for any wrecked RS's and grab a wheel from one of those and throw it in the trunk. My only fear with this is if a front wheel will fit on the back just long enough to get it fixed.

There is a well in the trunk floor for a space saving spare tire. That is also where the battery is located.

I think you'll have to wait a bit longer than a few months. If someone wrecks there new car (which will be a few). That car is going to be parted before it ever gets to the boneyard for everything its got. Plus I think you'll have a harder time since it specifically has to be a 20". I think your best bet is going to be onstar that you get for a year free or to get runflats. Or maybe ebay, depending on how much you want to spend on a spare.

No spare tire can be bought "ordered" with SS.
Reason being the Brembo brakes are to big & spare doesn't fit over them!
