Window Indexing issue getting worse in cold weather.
So I have the window indexing issue that GM supposedly is working on a fix for. However now that its getting cold out (or maybe its just a time thing) its getting way worse. 3 or 4 times (twice today alone!) i've gotten out of the car and the window never indexed back up. Every other time I get in the car I have to re index the drivers window.
Anyone heard of this programming fix coming anytime soon? This is getting ridiculous!

I haven't heard anything on when the fix is coming.
Actually I have just the opposite. Was having to re-index my driver side window 3-4 times a week this summer. Now that the cold weather has arrived, I haven't had a problem for weeks now.

Definitely not ice. It happened again this morning, closed the door to leave and the window was stuck down, I had to get back in the car and turn it back on again and reindex the window.
Man GM needs to come up with a fix for this soon its really starting to piss me off....

Check out this thread and try the instructions, if you haven't already tried this. It worked for me.

I don't know if this will work or not, it's similar to what is listed in that thred that's linked above. But when I was installing my new steering wheel, I had to disconnect the battery. In doing so, the windows would not index at all. I disconnected the battery with the windows all the way up. Then when I reconnected the battery, I had to turn the car to accessory, and a message came on the DIC. Follow the instructions, which it basically says to roll the driver's side window all the way down, then roll the window all the way up (do NOT use the auto up OR down when doing this or it will not work). Then do the same for the passenger's side. After doing this the window indexed fine. The only reason I say this might work is because the window system will be reset by disconnecting the battery. But I'm not sure if this WILL fix your problem or not.

Yes, try to completely disconnect the battery for 15 mins. Everything is computer controlled now. Just like your home computer, your car will need a reboot some times. When you turn the key off the modules just go into sleep mode, but they never fully power down. You have to do what is called a "cold boot". This is the same as shutting down your computer and pulling the plug from the wall. In your car, each module does have an operating system and boot software, it isn't Windows XP or anything, but it still can get corrupted just like Window XP and simply needs a cold boot. All you have to do is disconnect the battery, once the it is reconnected the modules will boot up on their own in a few seconds. You will have to reprogram your radio and settings and reindex the windows again, but everything software wise will be fresh in the system! What happens is the window system remembers the timing and electrical load on the motors to get the proper window travel. The system writes a little file in memory of this information. The data can get corrupted, or the operating system that instructs the body control module to access that data gets corrupted and the system just becomes stupid! I am a tech with International Trucks, our trucks are all digital and computer controlled. When we have issues with a body controller getting stupid all the time there is usually a problem with module not getting proper power or proper grounds.
Hope this helps!!! |

Actually, I have had to re index my windows too, twice now, in the last week. Each time the car sat for a week. Not sure what to think about it yet.
