Ya, I didn't specify the cause until last night. When the engine quit I still had plenty of inertia to roll probably a mile and make a few turns off the main road. I think the pistons and push rods are fine.

Thanks Snizzle. I'm just putting her back to before. I really enjoyed the car the way it was. I only joyride around town with it rarely taking it on the hgihway so I have no need for more HP

So out of curiosity, just what would cause this timing chain to fail under the subject conditions. Is it pulling harder turning the aftermarket cam and or springs ect??
Or, would it have failed as stock |

I'll echo what the others have said Max...and say that I'm sorry to hear that this happened. I had hoped that it would be an easy/simple fix. Unfortunately anyone that's been in the horsepower game for any length of time can tell these same types of stories over and over. Breakage and failure is generally considered 'the cost of doing business' for most of us. I broke a header bolt off in my 2000 SS with 1700 miles on it (had to pull head an have it tapped and heli-coiled), I stripped the HEAD-BOLT threads out out of the block with 7k miles on the car (doing my 3rd head swap on it), I've broken valve springs and bent valves, sheered off all 5 wheel studs, dropping me onto 3 wheels...I've I've grenaded driveshafts, rear ends...etc. You get picture. But those lessons haven't been for nothing. They taught me to work on my own cars and when given the opportunity, build it better/stronger than before.
Good luck with your repairs...don't let it get you down. A LOT OF US have been where you are. Just don't skimp on the rebuild...pay now or pay more later.

Hi Brandon
No I haven't. I called Chevy CS yesterday case 71-1115680730 and was told that a rep would need to diagnose that the timing chain failed with out help from the mods before I would be covered. The codes indicated that it was a cam sensor so I flat bedded it a few hundred miles to the shop that did the mods where they informed me that the chain failed bending 9 valves, broke the timing gears, the oil pump was damaged, sheared the bolts of the upper tming gear allowing the cam to shift destroying the lifters. Not bad for a car with 4,200 miles on it mostly driven the speed limit up and down Main Steet. I did a lot of research after the fact and there have been issues with earlier model timing chains and the LS3 chain tensioner failing.
