Are people joking about pirelli scorpions being good?
My first impression is these tires suck so bad and are the biggest ripoff.
I was all over the road today coming home from work. I don't think I've ever driven so slow in a car before and still slid everywhere. I'm talking under 10mph and sliding. I even tried going manual and starting in 2nd. Rear end was making all sorts of abs types of sounds. I truly cannot understand how people can say this is a good winter tire. Is there some trick I'm missing here ? Do I need an extra 400lbs in the trunk ? I live on a fairly steep hill. I'm dead meat come the first real snow storm. |

tires all depend on the car man. SOme tires work great for one car and crappy for others. Also with these cars..I would say get dedicated SNOW tires. All seasons just do not cut it on any high performance car around here.
I had Mich. Artic Alpine's on my old 98 Mustang and I used to live on a very steep hill. Anything RWD would get stuck. Put these on and it was like having a Mustang "WRX". We did not get stuck ever lol I am not joking. |

If you plan on driving in the snow and don't want to slide around -buy real snow tires. I drove mine around a bit with Nitto DR's and it actually hooked better than I would of thought.

the scorpions are a high performance winter tire. I would say they are about half as good as my blizzak ws-50's I had on my 2000 z28. The blizzak's were not a high performance winter tire, they did not corner worth a crap and were speed limited to 80mph.
Were the roads treated? Even with my blizzak's, I had to be careful on untreated roads. Also, if you got the stock tire size, the extra width will hurt traction. My z28 had 225's all around, on my 2010, I have the Pirrelli's on my stock RS wheels. I knew I would sacrifice traction but I drove with them all last year without any problems. btw, with the A6, you can start out in third.

Sounds like he was on ice. No one will grip it and stick it on ice, unless ya got chains or studs!
Snow with my Blizzaks--no problem. Straight ice is a whole 'nother story.

I ran the P-Scorpian Ice & Snow on my Camaro last year no problans. except ground clearance. Also have them on right now no issues.
You are talking about the P-Scorpian Ice & Snow not the Stock P-Summer tires? |

im with 600...bridgestone makes the best snowtire...imho...i drove my camaro last winter () anything more than 2 or 3 inches with the summer Pirellis and you are a sitting duck....its about tread and about tire width...the wider the tire...the more spread out the snow will become...thus making your car a 300hp sled...while fun to some...hazardous to all

I had to drive home last night with my stock tires and I can tell you it was a little unnerving at times. Didn't think I was going to make it plus I live on a hill. Saw several accidents and skidded thru a couple of intersections.
It's now off the road....

I drove into Boston last night. What a bunch of morons in the snow.Saw about 5 vehicles off the road, all 4wd or front drive cars. How the hell can you slide off a road going 20mph? Expecially the highway? Must be texting while driving...LOL
