Is the Valentine 1 completely up to date with all of the various technologies that LEO are using? I haven't researched a new radar detector in at least 7 years and recall the Valentine 1 being popular then. Is the one being sold today identical to the ones from years past?

What with the astronomical prices on those 2 , I decided to buy the Whistler CR90 at $184.00 landed, it was less then half the price and is about 95% as good as the 2 top dogs. So far it has worked like a charm . The rule of diminishing returns is ,you need to spend 2 or 3 hundred percent more to get 10% better performance . So for you bargain hunters check out the Whistler CR90 . It's like the 1LE vs the Porsche turbo ,those that can't afford the Porsche can still have fun ,with a 1LE. Just something to think about .

then again if you have the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ the Valentine 1 might be worth looking at .

I'll toss my vote in for an Escort 9500ix...I know it's not a Redline, or a V1, but it's saved my ass on enough occasions to have paid for itself a few times already, and that's just in 7 months of ownership...

My little brother just got a Escort 9500ix for $30, from his friend's dad who had it in his 2014 911 Turbo S. My brother asked if he was selling it, and he said how much do you have in your wallet. My brother opened up his wallet and had $30, and he was like okay it's yours. I wish I could get deals like that.

So, I'm not sure if I should get the same one or the V1.

I've had my V1 for almost a year now and it has worked fantastic. Several times it has picked up a police radar signal from well over a mile away. I thought it was falsing but then sure enough a cop was down the road a ways. I've also heard very good things about the Passport. Either way I think it is a good purchase.

Just stay away from Cobra. I had a Cobra for a while and it was completely crap.

I use escort but agree with false sense of security remark. There is more then one way to get a ticket. Detectors are useless against pacing and laser.

I've got a V1 that I purchased in '99 and a Redline that I purchased in 2013. My girlfriend now uses the V1. I love the Redline but I miss the directional arrows on the V1. Range wise I don't see much of a difference. That surprised me considering how much older the V1 is. If I was buying a new one tomorrow I would go with the V1. The Redline is a great unit, I just think the V1 is a little bit better.

I had my Valentine 1for like 10 years and it worked great. When I got the 1LE earlier this year I sent it in for a upgrade. Valentine 1 are always upgradeable just plug in the s/n on their website and it will give you the price.

Again my V1 saved me twice this week. I know it's a bit more but where I live 1 ticket will cover it. Also, I know you can buy an additional unit to integrate the V1 into your HUD, which is really freakin cool.

Again, the situational awareness offered by the V1 is unique. Imagine you're driving along at 1 mph (okay 9 mph) over the posted limit and your detector sounds. If you don't have the directional arrows of the V1, you might SLOW DOWN! Little by little the signal gets stronger until you see a LEO approaching from behind. Now you're screwed. Conversely, with a V1 you can tell when the signal is behind you and assuming it's weak, you can maintain your speed and put distance between you and the source of the radar. I can't imagine NOT knowing WHERE the signal is coming from!

Haven't had a detector in 20 yrs. Always had Escort in the past so went with the Max. Have no recent competitors to compare it against but it works great for me. Gives me plenty of notice from forward and behind and I believe that it has saved me many times in the past few months. My only disappointment is that in my area, there doesn't seem to be many "Live" users around. Waze gives me a lot more info than Escort Live does. Like the auto lock out feature and when used with the app and Bluetooth also like that the speed limit is displayed.
