Do you know when you will be able to get a diagnosis? This would be the first step to take.

It won't be anytime soon because I don't know if I have a problem. What mine is doing on the shifting thing is rare. What I wanted to know was what to look or hear for on the torque converter. If it acts up worse I will have to make an appointment with a dealer. I guess I thought since you were Chevrolet customer service you would know what the problems were with the torque converters.

Thanks,
Dean.

PS, just an FYI I am in a small town whose Chevy dealership closed up when the crisis hit a few years ago. I have to drive either 40 miles to a dealership I don't trust or 50 miles to a dealership I don't know and I purchased this car 400 miles away.

Not trying to sound stupid here, just concerned for my 2012 v6 m6, is this only for automatics or can this be experienced with manuals (the stuttering issue and torque converter needing replaced). Sometimes when I am in low rpm range I feel some stuttering from 1300 rpm til I hit around 1800 rpm in any given gear. Also having issues with gears not going in smooth and have grinded a couple times. Any help or should just take to dealership. Am I just being paranoid. Thanks in advance.

Also it seems as first couple shifts car is smooth. Any shifting especially out of first gear from dead stop are brutal going into second. I could just be crappy with a manual. Don't think I am as have never had a problem before like this. Also car just rolled over 700 miles so is there a break in period. Sorry for all the questions. Just new and have been meaning to ask. Thanks all!

It is for automatics. You have the manual so you do not have a torque converter. The torque converter allows us to stop with it in drive since we have no clutch to disengage.

Okay, normally I would say on the manual if you are getting a shudder or the motor is jerky at low RPM it is usually because to high of a gear is being used and the motor is trying to overcome that. I call it lugging or chugging the motor. 1300 is a little on the low side in any gear if you really have your foot in the pedal hard then you will notice it. If you are feeling it under mild acceleration you may have a problem. You also mentioned you are getting a grinding when changing gears, as long as you have the clutch pressed to the floor and you don't have too much of a delay changing gears you should not be getting a grinding sound. Manual trans have what they call synchromesh gears, when the clutch is depressed to the floor and gears are changed there should be no grinding unless you are changing gears before clutch is depress all the way. You are under warranty so I would head to the service department at your nearest dealer and have them check it out.

If you haven't drove manual before it does take some practice to get to the point of smooth shifting. I took an SS out that had a manual and it had been a few years since I drove a manual but it was like riding a bike. The only thing I don't like about the cars these days with manuals, I noticed this real bad in the Camaro, is what I call hang time on RPM. On the test drive I jerk the car a few times between gear changes because I was changing gears and releasing the clutch before the motor would drop RPM's.

Hope this helps,
Dean.

I did, I had a rattle between 1800-2000 rpm and it sounded like I was driving a hoopty. Turned out to be the catalytic converter. 1800+ repair, done under warranty.

While we are able to provide information on warranties, recalls, and programs, it is best to get a diagnosis at a dealership because we treat every vehicle concern on a case by case basis and they are our eyes and ears, so to speak. Please let me know when you are able to get a diagnosis.

Since I now know what the issue is I am not going to get a diagnosis. I have been around the block with new vehicles and I have gotten the run around from dealerships, including GM, about getting things fixed. Last one I recall had to do with a recall on brake lines, I went to the local dealer to get it fixed, had the TSB in hand and "they had to look into it". Well after 3 weeks and a number of calls they didn't know anything about. Drove 50 miles to another dealership they said "you're actually still driving it". So, I was looking for a simple answer that apparently you couldn't answer. So instead of telling everyone to go get a diagnosis either answer the question or don't bother posting if you don't know.

Dean.

Second- Cause- Check engine light (loss of power, stabilitrac error code

Result- Couldn't duplicate error? Codes cleared.. Sent me home
with loose lugs which brings me to

Third- Cause- SNAPPED stud on left rear wheel.
Result- Replaced stud, balanced tire, denied they did it...

Fourth- Cause- Check engine
Result- Loose gas cap.

Fifth- Cause- Check engine light (charging system failure)
Result- Replaced alternator.

Not a huge fan of dealership service departments... But I love my Camaro Let's just say I don't plan to keep it any longer than the warranty lasts...

I had my Torque Convertor replaced at 4200 miles which was a few months ago. Currently at 6400 miles. No issues since! Like anyone else who the TC replaced it felt like going over a rumble strip etc.

Ok. So they told me they were going to just swap alternator again. Now they told me they called in to GM and this is a known issue. Replaced wire harness between ECM and alternator for circuits 23 & 25.. Supposed to fix the problem. We shall see. Hope that does the trick
