Halo's as DRL on NON-RS (Fully working)

After a lot of research and testing, I finally got the HALO's to be the DRL while still in the Auto position. If the DRL's are suppose to be on, the Halo's are on (when you do the flash to pass though, the halo's turn off till the high beams are off). During the night, the halo's are off, but all other lights are on like normal.

I finally have everything done, I am testing it now in the car to make sure it doesn't crap out. The video shows the car running in the sun, then I move the light switch around and do the flash to pass. Unfortunately, the neighbors were wondering what I was doing, so there is no sound and I skipped ahead to where the car was pulled into the shade and the night lights came on. Sorry for the video, but its the best I could do.

Will be posting pictures soon of the final unit.

MagnumForce, you are awesome! I have been waiting for the day someone was smart enough to do this!

You see, i have a Canadian car, so I can not turn off my DRL (Headlamps). I wanted to use the Halos as DRL by tapping into the ignition fuse for the Halos, but I just needed a way to get the actual DRLs turned off. Your way seems to be more complicated, smarter, AND require more smarts =P

I wish you best of luck with your experiment. I will follow on this thread for sure!

I like the way the halos are off with the headlights on. Looks evil. Good job.

Just a quick update, I finally got to work on this project again and it fully works now. Before the lights would flicker, but I fixed that. The only downside now is that it takes a little under a second to do flash-to-pass (Halo's to High Beam). The lights ran for over 1 minute with no flickering, so now I am going to build a circuit board and encase it.

Will post a video of it when I am done, and see how it works.

I hooked my halo's to a separate switch so I have total control of all lights. I too like the look of the headlights without the halo's on and the parking lights on. It looks awesome!

Updated the first post and here is a picture of the final unit. Not pretty, but it works. The case is too large, could probably go with something smaller.

I don't think I will be making another one of these, it was a PITA, especially the circuit board. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. It is possible though to turn the DRLs off without having to mess with the light switch, and still retain the AUTO position.
