The Mr Clean filter also works reasonably well. I dont like it much for the spray/soap options but the filter works for final rinse. As long as you replace it before it turns brown that is.

I have such hard water at my house (well water - I'm rural) that I'm planning to wash the car at the wand wash in town and then bring it home to do the polishing and waxing.

What kind of water do they use? Some carwashes recycle their water, I've heard.

I realize that it is not the same as a de-ionizer and apologize if I somehow implied that it was.

For someone who doesn't want to spend the money on a commercial set up, this set up will work for 90% of the applications in the fashion I mentioned. It definitely is 100 times better than nothing at all and for the price, it works perfectly well and is a hell of a lot cheaper than the commercial grade options.

If you at least have a sediment filter you should be as good as the city water, and you can get a whole-house filter almost any major hardware store, it would be similar to the unit glimmerglass is offering but would be on all the taps in your house and would lenghten the life of all of your fixtures and valves -- it would be a good investment.

You do have to change the filters a few times a year, but it's been a great addition to my household with just the whole-house sediment filter. I do have soft water plumbed-in, but just on the hot as it feeds into the water heater (helps save the water heater because of reduced sediments as well).

Or you can install the one glimmerglass is selling, but simply not use the hose adapter.

I'd explore either option, as you could do the car wash at home and save yourself the challenge of keeping the car clean on the drive back from town.

I got mine at:

I washed my Black Camaro in the sun and just let it dry... no water spots at all...not to mention the time saved..

It's a little expensive, but people spend so much on detailing product any way I saw this as well worth it.
Those are super expensive. Just get a Mr. Clean car care system it works just fine and the cartridges are only like 4 bucks.

I have heard they don't work as well as advertised...

Like I said in the first post, this is expensive but worth it to me, having 3 dark cars and worth the time savings. Some people spend lots of money on polish, wax, buffers, blah blah blah, this is just another tool to help speed up the whole process to allow more time for driving, not cleaning. I was just sharing what I found.

Yes, and a lot of people use them simply for the rinse only -- use your traditional quality car wash for the wash.

I have a Mr Clean thing and used it to rinse the car once. I wasn't thrilled with the outcome (it was a brand new filter) and I find the handle pretty cumbersome.

The cheap towels are too scratchy or not absorbent at all. I use a chamois.

Since I have a water softener system for the house I just had a hose bib installed on it. That way I can run a standard hose from it and get soft water whenever it is needed. while I've been in this house for 5 years I just had it installed this week...because of the Camaro.
